Lance’s Career Coaching Qualifications
Experience level: Manager
10+ people coached for Career Coaching
Coaching software engineers is a major part of my day-to-day job. I've worked with dozens of engineers across varying experience levels with different goals and personalities. I am especially proficient in and passionate about helping people to set challenging goals and follow through on them. I have studied goal setting frameworks, and I have changed how my entire department utilizes goal setting for better efficacy. I've helped high performers to continue to grow and achieve great things, and I've helped struggling engineers to turn their performance around and get on the fast track to multiple promotions. I've also coached people who have made little progress. The largest part of your success will still depend on you.

About Lance
Growing up, I was far more interested in math, science, and books than I was in people. I spent most of my free time at home with family. When I started college, I majored in physics-astronomy because it sounded the most fun. It was indeed fun, but I decided to change majors after taking a "careers in physics" seminar (I'm happy to talk about that more if you want). My brother recommended computer science, so I switched to that, added animation as an emphasis, graduated, and started my career (in traditional programming, not animation, which I'm also happy to talk about). About one-and-a-half years after starting work, I became mildly interested in management and asked to be a team lead to try it out. I was given the opportunity and found that I really liked managing people. I stayed on that path over the following years, and I continue to get great satisfaction out of coaching people and helping them grow. I still love math, science, and books (ask me about my library), and I am now also fascinated by people and their motivations, desires, actions, and values.
Why do I coach?
Quite simply, I like it. I like learning about people. I like helping people. I especially like working with people to make their ambitions a reality.
