About Jacob
Hey! My name is Jacob and I'm currently a Product Manager at Coinbase. Coming from a non-target school like BYU with a major in chemical engineering, I had to do so much more networking and storytelling than my peers just to get an interview; then of course I had to ace the interviews! So whether you need help on your resume/networking, want to know how to 80/20 interview prep, or want to know if product management is for you, I'm your guy! Before working at Coinbase I received offers from McKinsey & Company and Nike, but ultimately decided to work at an early stage startup called GuideCX. I also worked for two early stage venture funds, Contrary and Kickstart, and co-founded an Autism-Tech startup. Product Management: I've given 100+ PM interviews and successfully gone through the interview process at startups backed by top funds such as Sequoia, a16z, Bessemer, Coinbase Ventures, Benchmark, etc. Why PM > Management Consulting: Kids at my school were hyper focused on IB or Consulting, myself included. When I went through the consulting interview process, I was the only person from my school to get final round interviews with multiple big three consulting firms (McKinsey & Bain) and received an offer from McKinsey. I'm happy to talk to anyone about the pros and cons of consulting vs. PM and why I turned down my McKinsey offer to pursue a career as a Product Manager.
