About Jack
As a mid-life career changer, I found myself trying to move into finance at age 36 without any of the requisite education, background or experience. Needless to say, it was a difficult move, which took me several years to achieve. Once I had found my way in, I then found myself wracked by imposter syndrome - without the experience or background of those around me, I lacked the credibility and confidence needed to succeed. I compensated for this by educating myself. I did a number of finance qualifications, including the IMC, CAIA and CFA Level 1, then started an executive MBA in 2014. I loved both the studying and what it did for me - I felt like I was fulfilling my potential, and finally would achieve all the things I had hoped for. In the meantime, I had become a Manager at Bloomberg, running a sales team covering Northern Europe and the Emerging Markets. As part of this role, I became interested in coaching as a way to be better at developing others, which has always been a passion for me. I started formally studying coaching in 2019, and since then I have completed Certificates in Executive Coaching, a Diploma in Transformative Change, an MSc in Organisational Psychology and an MSc in Coaching for Behavioural Change. I have worked with over 100 coachees both internally within Bloomberg and externally, and coached across a wide range of topics, including personal development, transformative change, career advancement, education and professional fulfilment. I combine a number of approaches, but I believe my secret to success is my ability to challenge my coachees whilst maintaining an unconditional positive regard for everyone I work with. I will help you to question your thinking, mindset, beliefs and assumptions but always with a sense of safety and a total absence of judgement. My curiosity and willingness to go deep will get you results you won't find with other coaches. Whatever it is you want to achieve, I can help you get there.
Why do I coach?
I first came across coaching as part of my MBA. I was struggling at the time with the fact that I was 36 years old but effectively at the start of my finance career, competing with people 15 years my junior, but with better education and background. I was trying to come to terms with my life choices up to that time, and reconcile myself with the fact that all that I had tried to achieve up until then had not worked out. Working with a coach helped my realise the value of what I had achieved - I had been a teacher, I had learnt 4 foreign languages, I had been a head chef, a semi-professional ice hockey player, a musician and I had recorded a kick-ass album which will sadly never see the light of day. I also had a beautiful wife and two amazing children who would never have been born if I had realised my early ambitions in life. Over many months (years?!) of reflection, I came to realise that all is as it should be, and ultimately to accept it... I am following my path and things will unfold as they should in their own time. This has not only brought some peace of mind (I am not all the way there yet!) but it has taught me to value what I have and be proud of what I can offer the world. My mission now is to try to bring this feeling to others. I am great at developing people, even though I have not always managed it for myself! I get a real kick out of my coachees' success, and knowing that I was part of helping them get there. I have helped people find new jobs, mend broken relationships, discover their purpose and live up to their full potential. I would love to do the same for you.
