Why do I coach?
I became a certified coach because I’m fascinated by what happens when people truly get to know themselves. Self-discovery is like finding the key to a lock you didn’t even realize was holding you back—and once that lock is open, amazing things can happen. Coaching lets me help others figure out who they are, what they want, and how to get there. I’ve spent 25 years working as a mentor, advisor, leader, and manager at a big public university, and honestly, there’s nothing more rewarding than helping someone connect the dots and take that next step in their career (or life). Whether it’s offering a fresh perspective, pointing out an opportunity they hadn’t considered, or just cheering them on, I love being part of those “lightbulb moments.” I have a knack for looking at problems sideways and finding solutions that aren’t immediately obvious. I can’t tell you how often I hear, “Why didn’t I think of that?”—and it never gets old. Those moments are energizing for me and remind me why I do this work. Coaching is my way of helping people see what’s possible, and there’s nothing better than watching them go for it.
