About Chris
I’m a Principal level data scientist and applied AI researcher with 13 years of industry experience across data science, strategy, analytics, and applied research. My path has taken me from working on U.S. national-level political campaigns, to roles at IBM and Nielsen, building early machine learning pipelines for brand-level consumer forecasts at firms like the Coca Cola Company , to co-authoring an ICML paper on LLM reasoning, and pursuing current research at the intersection of AI, formal reasoning, AI4Humanities and AI4Science. Across each chapter of my career, I’ve been drawn to hard, ambiguous problems: how to make sense of messy data, how to communicate complex ideas clearly, how to advise stakeholders under uncertainty, and how to turn intellectual curiosity into concrete outcomes. I’ve worked with executives, researchers, campaign teams, and technical peers, and I bring a mix of analytical rigor, strategic thinking, and practical experience to my coaching. I help clients clarify their goals, sharpen their story, and navigate competitive academic and professional paths with confidence. Whether you’re breaking into data science or AI, preparing for graduate school, exploring AI/ML/DS projects at the enterprise, or trying to translate a nontraditional background into a compelling narrative, I can help you think through both the big picture and the details that matter.
Why do I coach?
I coach because I know how valuable the right guidance can be at an inflection point. My own career has not been a straight line: I’ve moved across industries, returned to graduate school after years in the workforce, and learned how to translate diverse experiences into a coherent story. Along the way, I've always mentored or taught at bootcamps during weekends at nights, first to earn extra income, but later, because I found I was good at it, and found the positive impact I could make on people highly rewarding! I want to offer that same kind of support to others. Coaching matters to me because talent is often unevenly distributed from opportunity: many people have the ability, curiosity, and drive to succeed, but they need help framing their experience, choosing the right path, or understanding how to compete in unfamiliar environments. My goal as a coach is to be candid, thoughtful, and practical. I help clients identify what makes them distinctive, communicate it clearly, and build a strategy that fits who they are, not just what a generic application, resume, or career path is “supposed” to look like. I especially enjoy working with people who have interdisciplinary or unconventional backgrounds and want to turn that complexity into a strength.

The Helm
July 2021 - June 2024
Lead data scientist and primary developer of machine learning pipelines and processes for Helm, an emerging growth-stage startup of approximately 70 professionals that was later acquired by Murmuration.org. Helm was a political data startup building machine learning assets for voter file based data analysis and predictions. Lead innovator of methodology and practice for the DS team. Diverse set of projects include prototyping an early chatbot that integrated RAG architecture and vector databases from a fine-tuned LLM, to developing AutoML scoring processes. Built a custom Transformer architecture that predicts ethnicity by name alone as well as integrated this into a wider multi-attribute fusion model that combined diverse tabular and spatial data types to impute and predict missing attributes from voters. System lead the industry in accuracy and F1 scores across multiple voter file imputations. Leads a team of 3, and actively mentors 2 individuals, from data analyst to data scientist. Works primarily within an AWS/Snowflake environment. TensorFlow, Team Building and +23 skills
