About Alan
I’ve always been interested in understanding how people think and make decisions, and have crafted a career around using that knowledge to help clients and individuals make confident decisions in challenging situations. As an ICF-certified coach, I work with early- and mid-career professionals on career transition, growth, and leadership development, including interview preparation. I find that many people approach these high-stress situations so blinded by anxiety they forget all the great and unique things they bring to the table; my role as a coach is to help people step back, reflect, and develop insight that allows them to meet their challenges with confidence. Prior to my time as a coach, I worked at McKinsey for seven years, where I worked at the intersection of Consumer and Private Equity, with a focus on due diligences and growth strategy. My approach to coaching centers around three core tenets: Serving as a mirror and playing back what I observe as you talk through the challenges you’re facing Synthesizing what I hear and see to help you develop insight on your thought processes, patterns, and motivations Using the insights developed to support you in crafting a course of action to tackle the challenge ahead of you Along the way, I use my knowledge of the consulting industry and interview process to help you sidestep common mistakes, develop resilience, and sharpen mindset to get you to the interview feeling ready to be at your best. If you’re interested in learning more, please reach out and I look forward to connecting via an intro call!
Why do I coach?
I’ve had my share of mentors and coaches in my career that have believed in me, often when I didn’t believe in myself; as I stepped up into the role of manager, it shocked me how common it was to look at entry-level consultants and see people with crises of confidence, not unlike myself. The pervasiveness of these high-performing consultants lacking self-confidence inspired me to go into coaching, so that I could work with individuals and help them utilize their strengths and rediscover their confidence. Here at Leland, I see my role similarly; succeeding in the consulting interview process is all about knowing what makes you uniquely qualified and an excellent candidate. I believe everyone has something to offer; it just sometimes takes deep introspection and reflection to understand for yourself what makes you unique, and I’m excited to partner with you to develop that story.
