About Vivek
I was born in Manipur, in northeast India — a place most people haven't heard of, and one that was going through a difficult period politically when I was growing up. I left for boarding school in Gwalior on a scholarship, then another scholarship took me to university in Abu Dhabi, and eventually I ended up in New York. By the time I got to the MBA application process, making a case for myself in a new place wasn't unfamiliar. Outside of work I run, cook, paint, and eat my way through whatever city I'm in. I take all three of those seriously.
Why do I coach?
When I was applying, I had colleagues at Deloitte reviewing my essays and a Lauder alum who became a mentor and changed the whole shape of my application. I had only been thinking about Wharton. She introduced me to Lauder, gave me the inside perspective, and suddenly a program I hadn't considered became the one I most wanted. I got in. That experience is why I coach. Not everyone has a consulting network or happens to meet the right alum at the right time. I did, and it made a real difference. What I want to do for the people I work with is make that kind of access a little less random — help them see their own application more clearly, figure out what they're actually a strong candidate for, and give them the kind of honest, specific feedback I was lucky enough to get.
