About Thomas
Recently, Thomas served as Regional Business Development and Program Manager for the Health Career Connection Summer Internship Program for the North Carolina, Tennessee and Washington, DC regions and was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dental Public Health, Special Assistant to the Dean and Chair of the Admissions Committee of the Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry. He has held significant positions in student development within a unique variety of institutions of higher learning. He has recently served as an Assistant Clinical Professor and Director of Student Affairs at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Dentistry. Also, he has served as the Director of Career Development and Placement Services at Michigan State, Hampton, and North Carolina Central Universities. He has been the Vice President of Student Development for Wayne Community College in North Carolina. He has also served as the Director of Staff Development for the State of Michigan’s Department of Mental Health. Thomas has also had numerous consulting assignments and they have included: • Spearheading a recruitment initiative to increase the candidate pool for the Xavier University School of Medicine in Aruba. • Implementing a recruitment strategy to identify experienced pharmaceutical sales professionals for Novo Nordisk, Astellas Pharma, and Genentech/Roche. • Designing a corporate college recruitment campaign for Henry Schein, Inc. • Developing college relations and college recruitment programs for GlaxoSmithKline pharmaceutical corporation. • Serving as MBA, pre-law, and graduate school advisor/ admissions consultant for Kaplan Educational Services, advising more than 30 clients annually. • Advising clients such as the FBI, CIA, IBM, UNISYS, NORTEL, PepsiCo, Deloitte, The PGA TOUR, Baxter, The Southwestern Company, Cingular Wireless and small businesses such as Job Link, and EarthTouch Organics on various issues such as human resource management and coordinating effective college relations programs and career coaching.
Why do I coach?
Thomas loves helping young people and has more than 30 years’ experience in college relations consulting, career coaching, graduate and professional school admissions, and financial aid counseling in higher education. He was instrumental in developing the first college Graduate and Professional School Recruitment Fair. In 2000, he developed his own college relations and recruitment consulting firm, “Make A Transition,” providing college relations and recruiting services for numerous healthcare and bio-pharmaceutical companies. Thomas has devoted his career providing accurate academic advising, graduate/professional school advising, and career coaching for college students and recent college grads. With his keen insights and his strategic and systematic approach to the admissions process, he has successfully coached hundreds of young adults, empowering them to chart their career paths and matriculate to law school, medical school, dental school, and MBA school. For more than 12 years, Thomas served as the southeast Kaplan Admissions Consultant for law, medical dental, and MBA school, maintaining a 99% admissions success rate. Thomas welcomes the opportunity to provide individualized graduate and professional school admissions counseling and career coaching for enthusiastic clients.
