Steve’s Business Operations & Strategy Qualifications

Experience level: Director

I've spent about 20 years in operations and program management. I ran Trust and Safety organizations from 8 to 450 people at Accenture and TikTok, including the work for Meta and Twitter, and built most of that headcount myself. One account from 8 people to 150, and another from 150 to 450. Scaling an operation is a different problem than running one. What works at 20 people doesn't survive at 100+ and there are signs along the way that things are breaking. I've caught those repeatedly, in environments where getting it wrong was public. I hired, promoted and coached the managers on those teams as well. I've also been on the hiring side of hundreds of interviews. If you're interviewing for one of these roles, I can tell you what the person across the table is actually listening for I do my best coaching when you bring something specific. A team that's outgrown its process, a function you're being asked to build from nothing, a role you're interviewing for. I'm more useful with specifics than generic questions.

About Steve

I've spent 16 years in Operations and Program Management. I ran Trust and Safety teams ranging from scaling 8 people to 150 globally with Twitter as a client and another from 150 to 450 with Facebook while at Accenture (building most of that headcount myself) to ProdOps and Account Takeovers at TikTok. Most of what I know I learned by doing the job, usually by getting something wrong first and finding the better way. I hired, promoted and coached the managers on those teams, and coaching them was always the part I loved most. Now I do it on purpose. New managers, people scaling a team that's outgrown its process and anyone interviewing for an operations or program role are my wheelhouse and I'd love to help!

Why do I coach?

Through my 16 years in the tech industry, every time I managed people I always came home in the best mood after coaching and mentoring. I realized that's just truly my passion in life. I come from a D1 athlete background where coaching was so central to my being that I think it stuck with me in ways I didn't recognize for many years. I've had amazing mentors and coaches along the way who've taught me how to handle all ends of business, but honestly have probably taught me more about life. I've been eternally grateful for them and I love that I get to pass that wisdom and a little of my own on to others. You can expect an empathetic approach that focuses on the ways we can get to a destination together that leaves you satisfied not only with the coaching but with the progress made and the long-term plan as well.

Business Problem: Need overall ownership of business operations. Need someone to help build OKRs, KPIs, and drive overall business improvements. Need someone to pair with leadership to turn exec strategy into execution. How I fixed it: Built the OKR and KPI framework, overhauled delivery processes and stood up a Program Management function from a pilot. • OKR & KPI Framework: Built the company’s OKR strategy and KPI framework from scratch, partnering with leadership to translate executive priorities into tracked execution across Product, Engineering, Content and Operations. • Pilot to Program: Identified gaps in delivery handoffs, built a Program Management pilot tracking timelines, spend and stakeholders, then used pilot results (18% on-time delivery improvement) to get executive approval for new headcount, scoped the role and hired the Program Manager. • Cross-Functional Operating Rhythm: Established operating rhythm across Product, Engineering, Content and Operations to improve handoffs, ownership and follow-through on customer delivery workflows. • Resource & Vendor Planning: Owned headcount planning, workforce cap

Success that led to tripled project size. • Content Integrity Leadership: Led content moderation and enforcement operations for Facebook and Twitter at scale, applying industry standard review frameworks, quality controls and escalation paths across APAC, EMEA and US teams. • Team Scaling: Leading global Trust & Safety operations for Facebook and Twitter, scaling teams from 8 to 150+ and 150 to 450+ contingent staff and FTE managers globally in high-urgency, risk-sensitive environments. • Process Standardization: Developing and implementing standardized workflows, escalation paths and quality review processes across global vendor sites, improving operational processes and service delivery. • Client Relationship Management: Aligning with clients (Twitter then Facebook) on areas of opportunity then driving impactful changes that resulted in dramatic improvement in client relationships.
