About Sekou

I’m a marketing executive, educator, and longtime MBA admissions coach. I grew up in Providence, Rhode Island, in a family of educators, which gave me an early appreciation for learning, mentorship, and helping people reach their potential. After earning my undergraduate degree from Boston University, I began my career in technology consulting before deciding I wanted to move closer to the intersection of business, creativity, and culture. That led me to NYU Stern for my MBA and ultimately to a career in marketing. Over the past 20+ years, I’ve held leadership roles at companies including Microsoft, Meta, IBM, Turing, and A.Team, working across consumer technology, enterprise software, and AI. Alongside my corporate career, I’ve taught marketing at the university level for more than a decade and spent 10 years coaching MBA applicants with Veritas Prep. The common thread across all of it is something I genuinely enjoy: helping people take complex ideas, experiences, and ambitions and turn them into a clear, compelling story.

Why do I coach?

Coaching matters to me because education and mentorship have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Both of my parents were educators, and throughout my own career I’ve benefited from people who helped me recognize possibilities I might not have seen on my own. I’ve also made several meaningful career transitions myself, from technology consulting to business school, from B2C to B2B marketing, and eventually into senior leadership. Those experiences taught me how important it is to understand not only what you’ve accomplished, but how the individual pieces of your story connect. That’s what I enjoy most about MBA coaching. Applicants often come in with strong experiences but struggle to see what makes their story distinctive. I enjoy helping them find that thread, challenge their assumptions, sharpen their thinking, and ultimately present an application that feels authentic to who they are and where they want to go. For me, the most rewarding part is seeing someone gain clarity and confidence in their own story, not simply helping them complete an application.
