Richie’s Career Coaching Qualifications

Experience level: Associate

I am a registered nurse and UCLA-trained Family Nurse Practitioner with nearly nine years of healthcare experience across pediatric critical care, adult medicine, endocrinology, community health, clinical research, patient advocacy, and primary care. I have worked in major academic medical centers, community-based organizations, research settings, and remote healthcare roles, giving me firsthand insight into a wide range of healthcare careers and workplace environments. As a first-generation college graduate, I understand how difficult it can be to navigate education and career decisions without a clear roadmap. I help nursing students, new graduates, nurses, and other healthcare professionals strengthen their résumés and cover letters, prepare for interviews, identify suitable career paths, transition between specialties, and plan for graduate education. My coaching is practical, supportive, and personalized to help clients clearly communicate their strengths and move forward with confidence.

About Richie

I became a nurse because I wanted a career that combined science, service, and meaningful human connection. Growing up in a Vietnamese American family shaped by the refugee experience, I saw how language barriers, limited resources, and unfamiliar healthcare systems can make it difficult for families to receive the care they need. Those experiences motivated me to become a healthcare professional who could educate, advocate for, and support patients during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. Today, I am a registered nurse and UCLA-trained Family Nurse Practitioner with nearly nine years of experience across pediatric critical care, adult medicine, endocrinology, community health, clinical research, patient advocacy, and primary care. My own educational path began at community college, continued through Rutgers University’s nursing program and a Health Science Post-Baccalaureate Program at the University of Pennsylvania, and led to my Master of Science in Nursing–Family Nurse Practitioner from UCLA. Because my journey was not always straightforward, I am passionate about helping future nursing students enter the profession, supporting current students through nursing school, and guiding new and experienced nurses with résumés, interviews, specialty selection, career transitions, and graduate-school planning. My coaching style is practical, encouraging, and personalized to each client’s goals.

Why do I coach?

I coach because I know what it feels like to be a first-generation college student trying to figure everything out without a clear roadmap. From applying to college and nursing school to choosing the right career opportunities and eventually pursuing graduate education, I often had to learn each step through trial and error. The support of mentors made a meaningful difference in my journey and helped me see possibilities that I may not have recognized on my own. Now, I want to give back by supporting students and nurses who may be facing similar challenges. I coach to make the nursing journey feel less confusing and isolating by providing the guidance, encouragement, and practical strategies I wish I had earlier. Whether someone is applying to nursing school, trying to succeed as a current student, preparing for their first RN job, or planning the next stage of their career, my goal is to help them move forward with greater confidence and a clear plan.
