About Mitchell
Grew up in SC, playing competitive tennis. Moved to ATL after school to go into investment banking. Grinded for 2.5 years. Took a finance & strategy contracting role out in Denver to fulfill a lifelong dream of being able to move out to CO and ski most weekends. After 12 months, moved on to work in M&A and Strategy at Rocket Software, a Bain Capital backed software firm. Worked extensively with Bain Capital, C-Suite, and our Board on strategy and execution of inorganic initiatives. Bought my first small business in May 2024 after seeing multiple rounds of layoffs and wanted an insurance policy on my W2. Quit my W2 in July 2025 after being grinded to a pulp for months on end and a near death experience from a rockslide training for Nolan's 14 (look it up if you don't know), that put things into perspective. Now I help others pursue SMB acquisition as a means to freedom. I share my thoughts on my LinkedIn and newsletter, Buying Freedom (buyingfreedom.beehiiv.com). I spend essentially all of my free time training for and going after big mountain efforts.
Why do I coach?
I coach because I deeply resonate with the pain of feeling "trapped" in a high stress, time-intensive, white-collar role. I started my career in investment banking and moved into corporate development seeking better work-life balance. What I ultimately found was a similar culture of a lack of regard for work life balance and personal commitments when it came down to deal time. With that, I also experienced multiple rounds of layoffs as the software firm I worked for was backed by private equity. I finally decided I needed to acquire a small business as an "insurance policy" for my W2, after seeing multiple high-caliber colleagues get laid off for no good reason other than to hit a certain EBITDA margin that quarter. I ultimately left my W2 in July 2025 after being fed up with being grinded to a pulp and having a near death experience that really put things into perspective for me of "what matters." I coach because I want to show other high performers that there "is another way" and help guide them to true freedom - regaining control of their life & time.
