About Lance
Chartered Accountant and former Big 4 auditor (PwC, KPMG), investment banker (Investec), and finance leader (NAB, Banjo Loans CFO). I founded Model Citizn to help finance professionals move beyond spreadsheet labour — and co-founded EXL Cloud, a financial modelling platform that connects driver-based 3-way models to cloud accounting data. Today I work as a fractional CFO, financial modelling trainer (CA ANZ, FMI certified), and AI educator. I’m the creator of the AI-Powered Accountant programme — a structured course helping accountants and finance professionals build real AI capability — and co-host of the Future of Finance Lab, a fortnightly practitioner community running since 2025. I coach finance professionals who are serious about the next decade: those who want to build AI capability on top of genuine technical foundations, not just learn prompts.
Why do I coach?
I coach because I spent 20+ years watching talented finance professionals do work they were over-qualified for, with tools under-designed for the job, and almost no deliberate investment in their development beyond technical compliance training. AI changes what’s possible — but only if it’s built on real foundations. That’s the gap I coach into: not “how to use ChatGPT,” but how to think differently about your work, your value, and your career trajectory in a profession that is genuinely being reshaped. I’ve had great mentors at critical moments. The people who pushed me, challenged my assumptions, and refused to let me stay comfortable. I coach because I want to be that for other finance professionals — before the window closes.
