"Practising Chief of Staff to the CEO at a UK tech unicorn, with a background in investment banking (Bank of America, Evercore) and strategy roles at high-growth tech companies. I lecture on the Chief of Staff role at London Business School, partner with the Chief of Staff Association (the leading professional body for the role), and I'm the author of The Chief of Staff Playbook, a practical guide for MBAs and mid-career professionals breaking into Chief of Staff roles in tech. About Kathryn

I'm Chief of Staff to the CEO at a UK insurtech unicorn. Before that, I spent five years in investment banking at Bank of America and Evercore, working on M&A and debt transactions with tier 1 PE funds, before moving into strategy and corporate finance roles at high-growth tech companies. I completed my MBA at London Business School in 2021, where I was co-President of the Entrepreneurship Club, launched a VC and founder podcast, and co-authored two entrepreneurship case studies with LBS faculty. During the MBA I was also a Student Ambassador, working directly with the Admissions Committee on candidate selection. I've been on both sides of the admissions table and I've since interviewed applicants for the school. Today I sit on the LBS New Alumni Council, lead the school's alumni entrepreneurship network, and angel invest through a VC syndicate. I'm also the author of The Chief of Staff Playbook, a guide for MBAs and mid-career professionals breaking into Chief of Staff roles in tech, published on Substack. I coach in two areas: MBA admissions (with deep knowledge of LBS and top European programmes) and breaking into Chief of Staff roles. I work best with candidates making a career or geography switch from international backgrounds who need help shaping a compelling, differentiated story.

Why do I coach?

When I applied to LBS, I didn't have a coach. I figured out the process through trial and error, leaning on friends who'd been through it and piecing together advice from whoever would give me the time. It worked, but it was harder than it needed to be, and I know there were things I got wrong that the right guidance would have caught early. That experience stuck with me. Since graduating, I've informally helped dozens of candidates with their applications, from first draft essays to mock interviews. What I kept seeing was the same pattern: talented people with strong profiles who didn't know how to tell their story in a way that landed. The gap was never ability. It was always narrative and positioning. The Chief of Staff coaching came from a similar place. When I moved into this role, there was almost no practical guidance out there on how to find, land, or succeed in a Chief of Staff position. I had to figure it out myself. That's why I wrote The Chief of Staff Playbook, and it's why I coach on it now. If I can save someone the months of uncertainty I went through, that's time well spent.
