About Josh
I'm a Barry Scholar at the University of Oxford, where I'm reading for an MPhil in Politics. After completing my MPhil this summer, I'll attend Yale Law School. Before Oxford, I studied American studies, history, and politics at Brigham Young University, where I graduated summa cum laude. Coming from a single-parent, relatively low-income household in small-town southern Utah, I never thought I'd win a national scholarship or gain admittance to a top law school. I hope I can help you achieve your academic goals! My expertise: In addition to Yale, I was admitted to Harvard, Stanford, Chicago, Columbia, Duke, Virginia, Georgetown, and BYU. Chicago awarded me the Rubenstein Scholarship (full-tuition plus $20,000/year stipend), and Columbia offered me the Hamilton Fellowship (full-tuition). BYU and Virginia also offered me merit scholarships. The Barry Scholarship fully funds the pursuit of any advanced degree at Oxford and offers generous living, research, and travel stipends. It is awarded on the basis of academic merit and "devotion to the pursuit of truth" to around 12–14 students from the United States each year. I was admitted to four different programs at the University of Oxford, and I'm happy to chat about Oxbridge and/or prestigious scholarship applications! I've written for both public (The Dispatch, The Spectator, Deseret News, First Things) and academic audiences, having won both university-wide and departmental awards for writing in undergrad.
Why do I coach?
I coach because I didn't grow up around the kinds of people who went to Ivy League schools! I went to a public school in a small town, and I want to help people like me achieve their academic goals.
