John has helped clients get into these schools:
I coach medical school applicants through a strategic, systems-based lens developed over 15+ years in highly selective admissions advising. My background as a Harvard graduate, combined with extensive experience guiding high-achieving students through competitive undergraduate admissions, gives me a deep understanding of how elite institutions evaluate academic rigor, intellectual direction, and long-term narrative coherence. I apply that same structural thinking to medical school admissions. Medical school is not won at the AMCAS stage. It is built years earlier through coursework strategy, research depth, clinical immersion, leadership positioning, and thoughtful reflection. I specialize in helping students reverse-engineer the process. We clarify intellectual motivations, align experiences with future goals, and construct a compelling, evidence-backed narrative of readiness for medicine. I have worked closely with pre-med students on: • Academic trajectory planning and GPA repair strategy • Research positioning and publication narrative • Clinical experience selection and depth analysis • Personal statement development rooted in authentic motivation • Activity descriptions that demonstrate impact rather than participation • Secondary essay frameworks tailored to institutional priorities • Interview preparation focused on clarity, maturity, and ethical reasoning My approach is rigorous, honest, and structured. I do not rely on generic templates. Instead, I help students understand how admissions committees think, how institutional missions differ, and how to present a profile that is both competitive and authentic. The goal is not simply admission. The goal is to develop a future physician who can clearly articulate why medicine, why now, and why them.

About John
I’m a college admissions strategist and former Harvard graduate who has spent over 15 years helping students navigate highly selective admissions with clarity, confidence, and long-term vision. My work sits at the intersection of strategy, storytelling, and student development. I do not just edit essays. I help students architect a compelling four-year narrative. From course selection and academic positioning to research, leadership initiatives, and summer planning, I guide students in building authentic, high-impact profiles that align with both their strengths and the realities of today’s admissions landscape. Over the years, I have worked with students admitted to Ivy League universities, Stanford, MIT, UChicago, Duke, top UCs, BS/MD programs, and other highly selective institutions. I have also helped students earn major merit scholarships and gain admission to competitive research programs and summer institutes. What differentiates my approach is structure. I think in systems. I help families zoom out and see the multi-year arc instead of focusing only on the next deadline. My students do not simply apply to college. They develop intellectual direction, executive function, and a strategic understanding of how admissions decisions are made. Whether you are aiming for a Top 20 school or looking to maximize fit and opportunity, I bring honest feedback, high standards, and a calm, experienced perspective to every stage of the journey.
Why do I coach?
I coach because I have seen how unnecessarily opaque the admissions process has become. When I applied to college, mentorship changed everything for me. I had people who helped me see beyond where I started. They pushed me to think bigger, write better, and compete at a higher level. Without that guidance, I would not have accessed the opportunities that shaped my life and career. Today, the admissions landscape is even more complex. Test policies shift. Institutional priorities evolve. Competition intensifies. Families often feel like they are operating in the dark. What frustrates me most is not the competitiveness. It is the confusion. Talented students frequently under-position themselves simply because no one has taught them how to think strategically about their narrative, intellectual direction, and institutional fit. Coaching, for me, is about leveling that playing field. It is about helping a student move from “I hope this is good enough” to “I understand exactly why I am competitive and how to present that clearly.” I care deeply about long-term trajectory, not just admissions outcomes. The process should build confidence, clarity, and ownership. When done well, students walk away not only with acceptances but with sharper thinking, stronger writing, and a deeper understanding of who they are. That transformation from uncertainty to strategic confidence is why I do this work.
Work Experience

Educational Consultant
Open Admits
February 2026 - Present
As a Senior Educational Consultant at Open Admits, I help students and families navigate the increasingly competitive college admissions landscape through strategic academic planning and personalized advising. I work closely with middle and high school students to develop long-term academic and extracurricular roadmaps that position them for success at selective universities. My work focuses on helping students identify their intellectual interests and translate them into meaningful initiatives—such as research projects, leadership roles, internships, and passion-driven activities—that strengthen their overall profile. I guide families through key milestones including course selection, standardized testing strategy, summer planning, and the full college application process, including essay development and application positioning. In addition to one-on-one advising, I collaborate with schools, PTAs, and student organizations to deliver workshops and webinars on topics such as building a compelling college profile, navigating holistic admissions, and planning strategically from grades 9–12. At Open Admits, my goal is to empower students to pursue authentic academic paths while helping families make informed decisions throughout the college admissions journey. I combine individualized mentorship with a strategic, long-term approach to help students maximize opportunities and present their strongest possible applications. College Admissions Counselor
PRESTIGIOUS EARLY LEARNING ACADEMY
June 2018 - February 2026
At Edvanced Learning Academy, I worked closely with high school students and families to guide them through the increasingly complex college admissions process. My role focused on helping students build thoughtful academic and extracurricular profiles while developing long-term strategies that aligned with their intellectual interests and future goals. I advised students from grades 9–12 on course selection, standardized testing strategy, summer programs, and extracurricular development, helping them identify meaningful opportunities for leadership, research, and community engagement. I also supported families in developing balanced and strategic college lists that reflected each student’s academic profile, personal interests, and financial considerations. During the application process, I coached students through every stage of the college application cycle, including personal statement development, supplemental essays, and overall application positioning. My approach emphasized helping students articulate authentic narratives that reflected their intellectual curiosity, personal growth, and unique experiences. In addition to one-on-one advising, I led workshops and informational sessions for students and parents on topics such as building a competitive college profile, understanding selective admissions, and planning strategically throughout high school. This experience laid the foundation for my later work advising students at larger counseling organizations and ultimately helped shape my approach to building more structured, long-term admissions planning frameworks through my work at Open Admits.
