60+ people coached for Design
I love helping designers grow. Over the past 20+ years, I've worked as a creative leader, educator, and mentor, building teams, developing talent, and leading award-winning work for brands such as Target, Best Buy, T-Mobile, General Mills, Quicken, and Publix. I've also served as an Adjunct Professor, teaching design and business practices and helping students prepare for successful creative careers. I've mentored more than 50 individuals throughout my career, supporting everything from portfolio development and creative direction to leadership growth and career strategy. Every designer's path is different, so my coaching is tailored to the unique goals, strengths, and opportunities of the person I'm working with. Whether you're just starting out, navigating a career transition, or preparing for a leadership position, I can help you identify the next steps and accelerate your growth with practical guidance informed by real-world experience.

About Jim
I'm a Creative Director, brand strategist, educator, and entrepreneur with 25+ years of experience building brands, products, and creative organizations. Throughout my career, I've led multidisciplinary creative teams across branding, retail, consumer products, packaging, digital experiences, and marketing. I've led award-winning work for companies including Target, Salesforce, T-Mobile, Canva, General Mills, Walgreens, Quicken, and DreamWorks, while also founding my own consumer brand and teaching design at Brigham Young University. I coach creative professionals, design leaders, marketers, and founders who want to strengthen their portfolios, develop leadership skills, navigate career transitions, build compelling brands, and create work that drives measurable business impact. My approach combines strategic thinking, practical industry experience, and personalized mentorship to help clients accelerate their growth and achieve meaningful career goals.
Why do I coach?
The best opportunities in my career came from mentors who challenged me to think bigger and see possibilities I couldn't yet see for myself. Coaching allows me to do the same for others. I enjoy helping creatives move beyond execution and develop the strategic mindset, leadership skills, and confidence needed to advance their careers. Whether you're an emerging designer, an experienced creative leader, or an entrepreneur building a brand, I'm passionate about helping people identify their strengths, sharpen their vision, and create a path toward meaningful professional growth.
