Questions?

You can start chatting with Ian before you get started.

I make organizations run, remove what's stopping them, and help them tailor, govern, and use AI in their operations. What's stopping them is usually a broken link: a strategy nobody wrote down, goals never derived from it, OKRs never derived from those, or daily work nobody has checked back against any of it. Finding the broken link is most of the job. The fix is rarely more activity. It's connecting that chain end to end, then checking — week after week, not at the annual offsite — that what people actually do still traces back to what leadership decided. Different organizations, different broken links, same job. A lot of that work is now AI enabled, and should be. I design and operate agentic AI systems every day, and I built the governance for them before I built the workflows, because AI applied to a broken chain doesn't fix it. It just gets you to the wrong place faster. Governance designed in, not bolted on, is what I bring to every AI decision — mine or a client's. I can do that because I've sat at every altitude of the problem: twenty-four years, sixteen of them in the U.S. Government and eight in the private sector, from the working level to the executive seat, and as much time bringing rigor into fast organizations as bringing speed into rigorous ones. I coach the people who have to make this work inside a real organization, with or without AI — the individual under pressure to produce, the manager trying to coordinate a team, and the leader accountable for goals that have to connect to what people actually do on Tuesday. Same problem at three altitudes. I've worked all three.

Why do I coach?

Watching someone stop drowning in activity and start accomplishing their mission is the most satisfying work I know. That's why I coach. I want them accomplishing it more effectively and more efficiently — including getting their tooling and AI spend down to what the work actually requires. The missions that motivate me most are the ones that do the greatest good for the greatest number — businesses whose products genuinely improve lives, and the public servants, non-profits, educators, and philanthropists doing that same work from a different seat. I've gotten that satisfaction from a career spent at every level of the work. The best parts have always been the moments where capability outlived the engagement — the analysts I trained, the runbooks people used after I moved on, the clients who walked away able to do the work themselves. That's exactly what I want from AI work now: not a dependency, but a team that can run it without me. I aim to be the coach I benefited from at every stage: honest, specific, and grounded in having actually done the job you're trying to do.

Hiring Manager

Founded and run a practitioner-led consulting firm: program management, AI integration and governance, and security advisory for government and commercial clients. Rescued a mainframe-to-cloud migration in which 18 teams had fallen eight months behind with a fixed deadline four months out; saved the client $12M. Stood up a client's first PMO in six months, unifying 37 cross-functional teams under a single roadmap. Restored a company's largest single engagement and its client relationships after six months of no outputs, delivering all contract requirements before contract end. Designed the phased transition of a 25,000-person workforce to tool-managed work processes with real-time OKR reporting. Cut a client's licensing costs by 95% by eliminating duplicative tools. Built AI governance frameworks and agent workflows that reduced recurring deliverable turnaround by more than 60%.

Hiring Manager

Led company operations for a government contractor supporting Department of War programs, directing multidisciplinary teams across program management, software development, and compliance. Took a software development team that was below contract requirements to the second-highest output in company history and repaired the government's confidence in our delivery capability. Completed the CMMI Level 2-to-3 transition and full CMMC implementation in under a year, and integrated both, plus the firm's first insider risk program, into a single governance system — structuring cybersecurity execution so it simultaneously produced the business process-maturity evidence CMMI required. Built a workforce performance management system that generated quantifiable, year-round data for personnel decisions.
