Applying to college is stressful and time-consuming, but getting into the right school can change your life and set you up for success years down the line. I went through the process in 2020 and received acceptances from Stanford, UPenn, Duke, Northwestern, Georgetown, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and Vanderbilt, and full-ride merit scholarships from USC, Notre Dame, UT Austin, Emory, and WashU. I also received over $50K in external merit scholarships, including the Coca-Cola Scholarship and National Merit Scholarship. I went to a run-of-the-mill public high school, had no alumni affiliations, and no standout extracurriculars. However, I crafted a compelling story and was able to position my passions, activities, and academic interests in a cohesive, unique way.
