About Elke

What does it take to be successful as an international professional or student, working in a language that isn't your mother tongue, possibly even in a culture that isn't your own? Confident, clear communication is at the heart of it, because it makes you credible. And that's what gets you to your goals. Communication has been my focus and passion throughout my career — fueled also by my personal story. A few decades ago, I was that professional starting a new life in a new culture. I left my home country of Austria right after I got my master's degree in English, German, and Spanish translation to start my first job in the US. Today, most people can't tell anymore that I'm not originally from here. But I still remember what it was like to sit in meetings, afraid to speak up or, even worse, present to a room. I had a degree in languages and yet, I still worried about making mistakes and losing credibility. That experience is what led me into teaching and coaching. Since I started out in the US more than 30 years ago, I've added a doctoral degree focused on the role of language in business, and I've paired my academic foundation with real-world business experience. I've worked with hundreds of university students in Europe and the US and international professionals from small startups and large, well-known organizations. Through rigor and personalized hands-on work, my clients learn to speak and write with conciseness, clarity, and conviction, so they can build credibility and trust.
