About Edward
I'm a PhD chemist with an unconventional academic background. When I started undergrad, I attended a 2-year liberal arts college on a working cattle ranch, and I ended up retaking a bunch of STEM courses when I transferred to BYU to study chemistry. I've always done interdisciplinary research: at the borders of catalysis and DNA nanotechnology as a UW-Madison PhD student, and now in analytical chemistry and bioengineering as a Stanford Postdoc. I also juggled parenting (two kids) with research while finishing my PhD, and I know what it feels like when your academic and life paths don't match the normal career path your academic advisors may tell you about. While I take research and mentoring very seriously, I also get that there's more to life: I love cooking, reading, and biking. Your journey should reflect all of your values and interests, and I'm eager to help you make that journey.
Why do I coach?
I coach because it's rewarding to help someone set meaningful goals and gain the confidence and skills to achieve them, and I want the people I coach to find their own journey, especially when it diverges from the more well-trodden path. Throughout my own academic journey, I benefited from mentors who guided me through challenges, and their support shaped both my path and my perspective. At the same time, I remember wishing I had mentors who understood the specific struggles I was facing at the start of research and graduate school. By mentoring now, I hope to provide practical, encouraging, and tailored coaching to help you navigate your own journey with more clarity and confidence.
