About Dwight

I’m a small‑animal veterinarian with nearly 20 years of clinical experience, and my career has been shaped by a deep commitment to medical excellence, mentorship, and lifelong learning. Over the years, I’ve honed advanced skills in surgery, diagnostic ultrasound, and internal medicine which have strengthened skills through hands‑on practice and formal training. My internship at Purdue University provided intensive instruction from board‑certified specialists across multiple disciplines, including surgery, cardiology, oncology, dermatology, and diagnostic imaging. During my internship, I participated in the clinical training of junior and senior veterinary students which involved surgery labs and topic rounds, an experience that sparked my passion for teaching. Throughout my career, I’ve served in leadership roles that allowed me to mentor and develop veterinary teams. As a Medical Director, I participated in mentoring and training of staff, hiring, and management duties, and in my current work I train veterinary support staff and early‑career veterinarians in medical procedures, protocols, and clinical decision‑making. I’ve also guided new veterinarians through Ready, Vet, Go, where I facilitate group topical discussions and provide career guidance based on mentee interests and career goals” . My story is one of growth, service, and a genuine desire to help others succeed. Whether performing surgery, conducting ultrasounds, or coaching new professionals, I’ve always believed that veterinary medicine is both a science and a shared journey. One that becomes stronger when we lift each other up.

Why do I coach?

I coach because I know firsthand how transformative the right mentor can be. When I was an aspiring veterinarian, I leaned heavily on mentors who guided me, challenged me, and helped shape the clinician I eventually became. Their influence stayed with me, and it’s the reason I’ve spent years mentoring early‑career veterinarians and supporting students pursuing veterinary school. Coaching matters to me because veterinary medicine is demanding, and no one should navigate it alone. I’ve seen how confidence grows when someone has a trusted guide. Especially someone who can demystify the veterinary school application process, help refine clinical skills, or simply provide encouragement during difficult moments. In my mentoring roles, I’ve used psychological support through encouragement with problem solving, and I’ve watched mentees flourish when they feel supported. I want to help future veterinarians enter the profession with clarity and purpose, and I want early‑career professionals to feel empowered as they build their skillsets. Coaching allows me to give back to a profession that has given so much to me and to help others find the same fulfillment, confidence, and joy that I’ve found in veterinary medicine.
