Courtney’s TOEFL Qualifications
Hi there! I'm an enthusiastic recent grad, and I'm serious about helping you ace your TOEFL. I’ve spent the last several years at Duke University mastering the art of high-stakes academic communication. Having navigated the challenge of achieving professional proficiency in a second language (French B2), graduating with High Distinction for a graduate-level curriculum as an undergraduate, and teaching a class on a niche subject of critical theory, I can to take you from knowing "some english" to speaking like a theorist. I’ve spent years at Duke Centers for International Development and Documentary Studies, adapting to different professional and artistic environments of English speaking over time. I have a TEFL certification and familiarity with the TOEFL exam, and I know exactly how to break down the logic of the TOEFL’s newest 2026 format. As a coach, I specialize in the "Academic Discussion" writing task and the fast-paced speaking sections where timing and clarity are everything. Whether we’re working on the nuances of the new adaptive reading modules or refining your rhythm for the listen-and-repeat tasks, my goal is to make you feel as expressive and confident in English as you are in your native tongue. Language learning is my passion. I’ve taught over 100 dance classes to students of all ages and backgrounds, and I bring that same patience, energy, and excitement to every 1-on-1 coaching session. I believe that language learning is a gift, and teaching is my calling. You'll feel with every session, that I'm excited to help you step into a whole new world with the TOEFL. With me, you'll not only feel confident for your exam, you'll feel excited, intellectually stimulated, and confident.

Technical Producer
Vittles Films
April 2026 - Present
At Vittles Films, I am responsible for coordinating details on live shows, including staff communications, budget, inventory, venue, and funder relations. During "development" periods, I am responsible for research (often academic research for nonfiction films) and audience impact planning. My role changes depending on each projects' stage of development. Currently, I am the sole developer on an audience impact interaction software tool called the Southern Culinary Atlas. Developed with AI tools ("vibecoding") it will use GIS mapping, citizen science, and wikipedia-style submissions to weave together a public-facing, living archive of oral history and culinary research.
Freelancer
Freelance (Self employed)
April 2026 - Present
In addition to freelance tutoring, I also periodically consult on systems organization and documentary editing on a case-by-case basis when I am referred via my past work as a producer at indie documentary and dance companies.
Co-Lead
South-North Scholars
February 2023 - May 2025
At South-North Scholars, I used skills in international networking, project management, and high-level academic thinking to establish and run programs for hundreds of youth from dozens of countries. A small team of 4 accomplished multiple incredible feats over our years together, excecuting (1), a multi-national case competition with UN collaboration and publication, pairing young people in researching the world's toughest problems, (2) a speaker series with heads of regional banks to (3) a round table with the UN Development Programme, and last but not least, (4) a selective mentorship and professional development program for youth in international development.
Education

Duke University
Bachelor's Degree, International Development Policy
2022 - 2026
I graduated with High Distinction from Duke University with a 3.7 GPA for a self-designed graduate-level curriculum. Notably, I successfully proposed, developed, and taught an undergraduate critical theory seminar. I worked at the Duke Center for International Development to bridge the gap between undergraduates and graduates through a series of research communication writing workshops, and through speaker series, drawing speakers from major International Governmental Organizations. I worked at the Center for Documentary Studies and worked as a producer on two non-student films. Finally, I ran the university's swing dance club for 3 years, producing performances and teaching over 100 classes to varying audiences.
