If you're from an Ivy, do not reach out. I know what it takes to break into management consulting from a non-target background because I’ve done it myself. Coming from a Georgia State, without a built-in pipeline to MBB, I had to find my own path—learning how to network, tell my story, and master the consulting interview process. About Chanhyung
Hello! My name is Chan and I started my education at Georgia State University before transferring to Georgia Tech as an Econ major, where I had to learn how to stand out without the background many candidates rely on. From there, I crafted my story, did some internships, and eventually broke into McKinsey, with an additional offer from one of the Bs, JPMorgan, Cap1, and FAANG (all in NY, CHI, or SF). I beat out Ivy students, consulting club officers, and top business majors. Along the way, I also founded a startup that went through Y Combinator, giving me firsthand experience with both top-tier consulting and the world’s leading startup accelerator. Why do I coach?
I found my own story through the challenges of breaking into consulting, and that made all the difference. Once I learned how to frame my experiences, network with confidence, and approach casing strategically, doors that once felt impossible began to open. I thought I would never "make it out" from GSU, but 2 years later I had 2/3 MBB offers. I played the game, and it’s stressful—but I know how to navigate it. That’s why coaching matters to me: Others stress frameworks and resumes, but let's talk about what really get you into these rooms.
