Cannon’s Software Engineering Qualifications
Experience level: Associate
Hi, I'm Cannon! I’m a software engineer who loves helping people level up their engineering skills. Over the last five years I’ve worked on everything from backend systems and cloud infrastructure to DevOps pipelines and blockchain projects. Right now I’m at Leland building the very platform you're using with Java, React, GraphQL, and AWS. Before that I interned at Amazon on the Alexa team where I integrated AI and large language models into certification workflows. I’ve also helped launch an NFT marketplace, optimized deployments with Docker and Kubernetes, and even co-founded a startup through BYU’s Sandbox Program. I know what it’s like to ship code, scale systems, and juggle the messy parts of real-world engineering. Whether you’re growing your backend fundamentals, getting hands-on with cloud, or curious about blockchain, I’d love to help you level up.

About Cannon
My passion for computers can be traced back to my childhood playing one of my favorite video games: RollerCoaster Tycoon. That soon evolved into an interest in learning about software and computer programming until I finally started doing it myself in elementary school. Today that love continues to grow as I work as a full-stack software engineer at Leland, a platform built around a mission I find genuinely exciting: helping people access the expertise that can change their lives. A big part of how I contribute to that mission is through AI — I've worked it into basically every stage of development, and there's something that feels really fitting about using a technology that democratizes knowledge to help build a product that does the same thing for people. Before joining Leland, I graduated from BYU and completed the Marriott School of Business's Sandbox Program, where I worked with a team to try to build a software company from the ground up. It's one of those experiences that teaches you things no classroom really can. When I'm not heads down on a project, you can find me outside moving at something close to dangerous speeds. Unlike most people, I prefer to admire nature when I'm rocketing through Provo Canyon on my Ducati or bombing the black diamonds at Utah's ski resorts.
