Ben’s Fellowship & Postdocs Programs Qualifications
2025 Marshall Scholar and experienced teacher here to support people who feel lost against an opaque and challenging fellowship process. Previously, I ran a tutoring network of over 150 tutors to close the pandemic's education gap. I have worked as a school instructor in the Bay Area as well as a coach for Stanford's Mock Trial team. I have supported students admitted to a range of top universities, as well as landing finalist interviews for Rhodes and Marshall scholarships. I'm enthusiastic about helping crafting application narratives and conducting interviews across a range of technical and non-technical disciplines. I previously completed my B.S. at Stanford University and am an incoming DPhil student at Oxford University.

About Ben
When I wrote my Stanford application in haiku I didn't think it'd get me anywhere. Years later, and I look back on that free-wheeled risk as a springboard for the incredibly lucky academic journey that I've been so privileged to have. Now, as a Marshall Scholar, I spend my time working on the causes I'm eager to dedicate my life to. Even though my work is in technology and policy, my life can be threaded by a love for writing. Novels, screenplays, books of poetry, academic papers, press-releases, op-eds — even as my life path has changed a dozen times (and will still change a dozen more) I've tried to apply my love for words and skill for synthesis wherever possible. Our stories underpin how we see ourselves and, in turn, how others see us.
Why do I coach?
I'm here because I love listening to other's peoples life experiences and crafting compelling narratives with them. Mentorship has been a long part of my professional and volunteer work, whether by running one of the country's first online-only tutoring networks to close COVID's education gap, coaching Stanford's top mock trial teams, or teaching public speaking to Bay Area fifth-graders. Whenever I have time to spare, I try to fill it by being to others what I once sought myself: a pair of eyes and ears to synthesize life journeys into memorable stories. Navigating next academic steps can feel challenging, confusing, and critical. I get it. I won't pretend to be the world's best coaching expert, but I can promise to lend the experience I have, and the academic success stories along the away, to help support you.
