How to actually use AI to help you, from a fellow non-engineer

Everyone is hearing that AI is going to change their industry, but most people still use it as a fancy search engine or a tool for drafting basic text. Useful, yes, but nowhere near its full potential. I help people use Claude as part of their actual work. That might mean creating reusable Skills, setting up meeting notes that automatically capture decisions and follow-ups, or building a custom workflow for research, planning, or client delivery. The point is to build something around the way you work and teach you how to use and adapt it yourself. I came to this as a consultant, not an engineer. Recently, I rebuilt a research firm’s report production process, reducing the time spent on each report from about 15 hours to roughly 3, with quality checks built in. The decks were just one example. The real value is finding the work that takes too long or depends too heavily on you, then building a practical way for Claude to help.
