Description

If you already have a draft of your Common App personal statement but are not quite sure whether it is working, this package is designed to give you a clear answer — and help you fix it before you submit. You send me one complete draft of your personal statement. I will read it first as an admissions reader would, getting a sense of the impression it gives on a quick read, and then go back through it much more carefully. I will return it with detailed comments and edits throughout the document itself, rather than simply giving you a few general observations at the end. I will also give you a short overall assessment of what I think the essay is currently communicating about you, what is working, and where I think it could be stronger. That might mean reworking an opening that takes too long to get going, cutting a paragraph that is not adding much, tightening sections that feel over-written, or reshaping an ending that explains the lesson a little too explicitly. If you are struggling with the 650-word limit, I will also show you where I think you can cut without losing anything important. Most importantly, I will give you a clear sense of what I would change before submitting, and which changes matter most. Once you have had a chance to look through everything, we will get on a call and talk it through together. I do not want you simply accepting tracked changes without understanding why I am suggesting them. After the call, you can send me your revised version for a shorter second read so I can make sure the changes have landed properly. This is intentionally a small and focused package. It is best suited to someone who has already written a full draft and wants a serious outside read before submitting. It is not meant to turn into open-ended drafting from scratch. If what you really need is help developing the essay from the beginning, or support across your supplemental essays and wider application, I offer larger packages for that as well. For some background on me, I studied at Princeton before attending Harvard Law School, and I am now a Marshall Scholar completing my doctorate at Oxford. A large part of my academic and professional work involves reading, writing, and editing closely. My aim here is to give you the kind of feedback that is actually useful: specific, thoughtful, and candid about what is and is not working.

What you'll get from this package

Your draft returned with line-by-line edits and comments, plus a written verdict on what it says about you

A prioritised list of what to fix before you submit, talked through live so you understand the reasoning

A second, shorter pass on your revision to confirm the fixes landed before you hit submit

Additional details

Coaching delivered via live sessions.

Most of the work here happens in writing, in your document, where you can see exactly what I changed and why. You send the draft, I return it with edits and comments within three business days — faster when a deadline is close. Then we meet for a live session to go through it together, and you leave knowing what to do next. Send your revision when it's ready and I'll do a shorter second pass on it. I'd rather tell you a paragraph isn't working than be encouraging about it. That's what you're paying for.

Refund Policy

This package covers one Common App personal statement: your first full draft, one shorter follow-up read of your revision, and one live session where we can talk through the feedback together. It does not include supplemental essays, applications to additional schools, or writing the essay from scratch. I have separate packages for those, and if I think you would be better served by one of them, I will tell you rather than trying to make this package do more than it is designed for. I will normally return written feedback within three business days, and I will do my best to turn it around faster if you are close to a deadline. Please send your draft as a Google Doc or Word document so I can leave comments and edits directly in the file.

I went to Princeton, then won a Marshall Scholarship to Oxford, and was admitted to Harvard Law two years early through its Junior Deferral Program. I have spent the last three years at Write Track Admissions helping students build applications for exactly these kinds of places. Admissions officers at selective universities read thousands of applications that are, on paper, interchangeable. Strong grades, credible activities, competent essays. What separates the file that gets in is not another accolade. It is a clear sense of who the applicant is and what they will do with the place they are asking for. That is the thing most applicants never articulate, and it is what we work on first. What we work on: - A school list that is honest about your chances and still ambitious - The Common App personal essay, from the first idea through to a final draft that sounds like you - Supplemental and "Why us" essays, which is where most applications are actually decided - Your activities list and honours, written to show scale and initiative rather than participation - Choosing and briefing recommenders - Interviews, and waitlist strategy if it comes to that I also work with students applying to Oxford, Cambridge and other UK universities, including the personal statement, admissions tests and interview preparation, which the UK system weights very differently to the US. If you are applying on both sides of the Atlantic, I can handle both. Background: Princeton University, School of Public and International Affairs; Marshall Scholar and DPhil candidate at the University of Oxford; JD at Harvard Law School via the Junior Deferral Program. Book a free intro call. Tell me where you are in the process and I will tell you honestly what your next step should be.
