Description
End-to-end support on a Marshall, Rhodes, Gates Cambridge, Fulbright or comparable postgraduate award, from choosing what to apply for through to the interview. I won a Marshall Scholarship and am currently reading for a DPhil at Oxford on it, so I have been through this exact process recently rather than a decade ago. What follows is what I would have wanted someone to do with me. Strategy and positioning. We start by working out which award actually fits you, which UK universities and which course, and what the through-line of your candidacy is. Most applications are lost here, long before the writing starts, by candidates who pick a glamorous programme that does not follow from anything they have done. Personal statement and proposed academic programme. These are two documents that have to argue for each other. We draft both from scratch, and I give line-level feedback on every version until the case is airtight. Recommenders and campus endorsement. Who to ask, in what order, what to give them, and how to handle your university's internal endorsement process, which for Marshall and Rhodes is a real hurdle in its own right. Resume and supporting materials. Rewritten to show scale and initiative rather than a list of roles. Interview preparation. Full panel simulations run the way the actual committees run them, including the adversarial follow-up questions most candidates have never rehearsed, with feedback on substance and delivery. Timeline. We work backwards from your deadline so nothing is drafted the week it is due. Between sessions you get written feedback on drafts and can reach me with questions. If you are also applying to law school or a graduate programme this cycle, I coach those too and we can keep the whole set consistent.

Marshall Scholar at Oxford | Rhodes, Marshall, Gates & Fulbright Coaching
I won a Marshall Scholarship and I am now reading for a DPhil at Oxford on it. That means I have sat on the applicant's side of the most competitive scholarship processes in the world, recently, and I know what the written application and the interview panel actually reward. Most fellowship applications fail for the same reason. The candidate lists achievements instead of making an argument. Marshall, Rhodes, Gates and Fulbright committees are not choosing the most decorated person in the room. They are choosing the person whose past, proposed course of study, and stated purpose form a single coherent line. That line is what we build. What we work on: - Choosing the right award, the right UK universities and the right course, which is where most applications are quietly lost - The personal statement and the proposed academic programme, drafted so they argue for each other - Your campus endorsement: how to approach your fellowships office and what to give your recommenders - Interview preparation, including full panel simulations with the kind of adversarial questioning the Marshall and Rhodes panels actually use - Timeline management from first draft to submission I also coach law school and undergraduate admissions, so if your fellowship application sits alongside a JD, MPhil or graduate application, we can make the whole set consistent rather than treating them as separate projects. Background: Marshall Scholar, DPhil candidate at the University of Oxford (Magdalen College); Princeton University, School of Public and International Affairs; JD at Harvard Law School via the Junior Deferral Program; Admissions Consultant at Write Track Admissions since 2023.
