I was promoted from Analyst to Senior Manager in less than 6 years at Accenture as a Management Consultant. During my time there and also after, I have coached many peers both of lower and higher levels to get the promotion they long for. Consulting is NOT school, you can't just work hard and hope others are noticing to help promote you. Learning to network and build your own board of directors is critical in advancement but you need to balance not being too thirsty at the same time. A lot of this work starts with confidence building and transitions to improving your storytelling skillset. Lastly the work is continuous, your board of directors may leave, a re-org is most definitely going to take place - contingency plans and should always be on your mind.

I'm a former McKinsey Engagement Manager and interviewer, and founder of Calvanese Advisory. I spent 4.5 years at McKinsey in the strategy practice, across the US and Italy offices, conducting 100+ candidate interviews from the interviewer side of the table. My core offer is the Calibration Diagnostic, a structured assessment I designed at Calvanese Advisory.
