I worked for Ben at a high-performing unit in the Navy. In my 15-year career, no one improved my performance more than Ben did. He set high standards and challenged me to exceed them. With his guidance, I did. I needed to improve attention to detail, favoring the 80% solution in 20% of the time. Ben taught me processes for mission planning that ensured every detail was covered, accurate, and double-checked. Later, on deployment, these planning documents signaled the professionalism of my unit and helped gain the confidence of the Task Force Commander. I finished that leadership tour as a top performer.
