I was NOT on the path to business school. I’m first generation everything - first-gen American, first-gen College Grad and first-gen corporate. Business school was not even on my radar when I started my career. In college, I majored in Sociology, with minors in Community Action and French studies (who knows what I was planning to do with that degree). After landing my first job in HR at an investment bank, I started to hear my colleagues in different departments talk about the MBA. I ended up shifting career paths and landing in the social impact world, and quickly realized that in order to impact my community and to make a difference, I needed to understand how capital moves - business. So I decided to start my b-school journey. From the outside, it looked like I followed a linear path and I ended up at Harvard Business School and was accepted into Wharton, Columbia and NYU. However, no one saw that I had to take the GRE 5 times (and still never hit my goal score). Or that I was struggling with imposter syndrome the ENTIRE time. I could not have done it without the support of MBA coach and MLT and yes, I ended up at my dream school. But it was not easy. I know what it’s like to feel like you will never get into school, and that your story won’t make a difference. But as a coach, I’m here to help you get clear on your “why” and also encourage you to be honest about YOUR story. I’ve navigated low standardized test scores, career transitions and feeling lost.
