William’s Software Engineering Qualifications

Experience level: Manager

William has helped clients get into these companies:

I have helped students go from fearing their SATs to negotiating full time offers at Wells Fargo and IBM, as well as adults who were in a completely different field (military, nursing, real estate, etc.). Others claim experience from giving interviews or their job title, but I regularly interview for real positions myself and record the interactions to give you another learning tool. I have the most up to date perspective on what it's like to be in the hot seat for today's real postings and impart these insights onto you. Throughout my career, I've built products in law, tax, finance, and biotech. But above all, I learned how to leverage situations to make money for my clients. Now I help others learn to do the same.

About William

I went to a residential high school where the focus was math and science. I then went to college for engineering, while also launching my own technology startup. Yes, I did all those things that you're supposed to do for a good career. I'm happy to say that "it worked." By 23, I had the freedom to explore what I felt I’d missed growing up. Around that time, I began coaching informally because many people wanted remote jobs but quickly ran into the realities of supply and demand. I also discovered how humans work (and don't work) during that time. I learned that emotional development is a mandatory component to long term career stability. A prestigious job means very little if you can be replaced overnight or are burning yourself out to keep it. Living in Manhattan with 30-year-olds who already look 40 was all the reminder I needed to value myself over any company’s bottom line. If you look at many leaders in society, they’re not necessarily the smartest or the hardest working. What sets them apart is a strong sense of self. They carry a level of certainty that others respond to subconsciously. The way I see it, if I can help even a handful of people see themselves with a fraction of that same conviction, we end up with a much better world.

Why do I coach?

I grew up in a single-parent household, in poverty. Western culture always made me feel out of place for simply being. East Asian culture placed burdens on me to produce and shut down my feelings. I know how easy it is to lose ambition in a place where paths feel pre-drawn and doors seem closed to anyone not born into the right zip code or school system. But there’s power in being the underdog. Your skill is forged in reality, and reality is the only constant. Inheritances run out. Bodies break. Looks fade. Political power shifts. A sheltered person withers once their safety net disappears. I coach to remind humans what they’re actually capable of underneath the illusion of society. I’m also practical. I know it takes money to live as freely and nomadically as I do today, and I take real pride in seeing people I’ve coached buy their first plane ticket on a whim to visit me somewhere in the world.

Enable Medicine

January 2022 - Present

Science Applications • Developed automated image detection and image splitting code in Python, automating a manual process that previously took hundreds of work hours per month across teams. • Developed image stitching algorithms, fixing previously 'discarded' coverslips that cost tens of thousands of dollars to reprocess. Software Engineering • Created data pipelines in AWS (S3, EC2, Batch, Lambda) to automate petascale image transfer and image processing, scaling down data losslessly that normally only lives on supercomputers used by scientists. • Fixed various intertwined frontend flows in Javascript/Typescript, addressing direct complaints by large pharma clients. • Wrote various scripts/notebooks with SQL Alchemy ORM to edit millions of rows in PostgreSQL databases and AWS S3, cleaning or migrating data that regularly belonged to 100% of the user base. Machine Learning • Developed Pubmed Scraper that indexed 35 Million articles, then indexed the embeddings in a Pinecone vector database for LLM usage, enabling GPT-like chat on an entire body of scientific knowledge.
