About Rebecca
I grew up in Recife, Brazil, going to a local Portuguese-speaking school, but since my dad is American, I always had one foot in the US. Going abroad for college felt like the natural next step. I landed in Boston for computer engineering at BU and, like many people that go to school here, never left. I was a numbers kid from early on, the kind who genuinely liked math homework, and quickly became the friend people came to when they were stuck. Engineering felt inevitable. I then pivoted out of conventional engineering work after an internship at Wayfair, where I got my first real experience working at a big company. Working with data felt important, impactful and kept me surrounded by numbers all the time. I never strayed far from coaching and mentoring though. In college I worked as a technology ambassador, teaching engineering principles to local high school students. Then after graduating I joined Springboard as a data analytics mentor. I even considered becoming a teacher full-time. That pull toward helping people learn and grow never really went away. Outside of work, I'm a soccer/football fanatic (big Brazil/Real Madrid fan), a runner, and a pretty okay guitar player. I also travel a lot, a habit from childhood, since my dad lived abroad and I spent years going back and forth. I think that early experience of adapting to new places and figuring things out on the fly shaped how I approach problems, both in my career and now in coaching others. I know what it's like to make a big, uncertain pivot like moving countries, switching fields, betting on something that isn't the obvious path, and I like helping people navigate that same kind of leap into analytics with a little more clarity than I had.
Why do I coach?
My dad was my first mentor. He recognized my love for numbers early on (he's a numbers person himself) and believed in me from the start. He pushed me not just to keep up with him, but to surpass him, to accomplish things he never got the chance to. That kind of engagement and belief is something I think everyone deserves to experience. It's what I've tried to bring to everyone I've coached, whether they were a student trying to master a subject or a professional trying to figure out their next step. I love explaining things until they click. I love teaching. I love watching people succeed. And I genuinely believe that with the right tools and the right guidance, anyone can achieve what they're setting out to do.
