I graduated from the University of Oxford with First Class Honours in English Language and Literature— the highest academic distinction in the UK system. While at Oxford, I tutored part-time, and I now work as a freelance tutor with students across both the UK and the US. For bright American students, the most prestigious UK universities—Oxford, Cambridge, St Andrews, Edinburgh, Durham, UCL—deserve serious consideration. Yet the application process often feels mystifying from a US perspective. UK admissions place a premium on subject focus: the personal statement is academic and concise, and applicants are judged almost entirely on subject-specific potential. This means that many students who may feel lost in the highly extracurricular-driven US system could in fact be very strong candidates for top UK universities. However, expert, UK-specific guidance remains hard to find in the US, particularly for Oxbridge. My role is to demystify this process and provide clear, no-nonsense support, from personal statement coaching to interview preparation and application strategy. I know what works! My specialism is in English, but I have also guided students successfully through personal statements and interview preparation for a range of humanities subjects, from History and Politics to Philosophy and Classics. Wherever the focus, my role is to demystify the process and provide clear, no-nonsense support, from personal statement coaching to interview preparation and broader application strategy.

About Olivia
I’m a British-American tutor now based in Los Angeles. I studied English at Oxford, graduating with First Class Honours, and worked primarily as a senior tutor with Oxbridge Applications and A-List (under the Dukes Education group) in London before relocating to the US. I now tutor full-time and freelance for both London and US-based education consultancies. I specialise in undergraduate and graduate UK university admissions, particularly Oxbridge, as well as Scottish universities like St Andrews and Edinburgh. I have also supported British and international students with GCSE, A Level, and essay writing. In the January 2025 cycle, all of my long-term students were accepted into Oxford or Cambridge, as well as their secondary choices.
Why do I coach?
Thank you for considering working together! I genuinely love what I do, and I think that sense of excitement makes a big difference to my students. As a recipient of the 1-1 style "tutorial" teaching structure at Oxford, I am a huge advocate of 1-1 style coaching and believe it is the best format in which to help students learn. I believe my biggest strength as a tutor is imbuing my students with the same enthusiasm I have for my subject! I am approachable and kind, and I like to explore literature from the perspective of the student: why these questions matter, and how they connect to their lives. I pride myself on being both personal and personable, creating an encouraging environment where students feel comfortable to think, question, and grow. My academic training at Oxford and my current studies have given me an acute eye for essay writing. I enjoy passing these skills on, de-mystifying what makes an excellent essay, and helping students gain confidence in their academic voice.
