Scored a 760 on the GMAT
100+ people coached for GMAT
I have tutored the GMAT full time for the past nine years and have tutored the GMAT, GRE, and LSAT on and off for approximately 25 years. I scored a 760 on the GMAT and primarily tutor Quant and Data Insights, as well as Critical Reasoning. I have developed a structured GMAT curriculum using an extensive collection of GMAT Club links to official GMAT questions from nearly every Official Guide and GMAT Quantitative Review going back to 2015. I organize the questions by topic and approximate difficulty, allowing me to tailor each student's curriculum to his or her particular strengths and weaknesses and progress systematically from foundational concepts to more challenging official problems. I also bring significant academic and graduate admissions experience to my tutoring. I earned a JD/MBA from Northwestern University in 2010, an MA in Political Science from Stanford University in 2001, and a BA in Public Policy from Duke University in 1996. I also provide MBA admissions guidance to students upon request. My approach emphasizes understanding the reasoning behind GMAT problems rather than memorizing tricks or formulas. I particularly enjoy identifying why a student is struggling with a particular question type and developing an individualized strategy that produces lasting improvement.

About Matt
I’ve been tutoring standardized tests for 25 years and have worked with hundreds of students preparing for the GMAT, GRE, LSAT, SAT, and ACT. For the past nine years, tutoring has been my full-time work, with a particular focus on GMAT Quant and Data Insights. I earned a 760 on the GMAT and went on to earn my JD/MBA from Northwestern University, including an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management. I also hold a master’s degree in Political Science from Stanford University and a bachelor’s degree from Duke University. Before becoming a full-time tutor, I worked in financial services, strategy, and public policy, including roles at Bank of America, GE Capital, and the U.S. Senate. That background strongly influences the way I teach. I approach the GMAT as a test of analytical reasoning and decision-making, not simply a collection of formulas and rules to memorize. My approach is highly individualized. I help students identify the specific concepts and question types holding them back, develop more efficient ways to solve problems, and build a study plan around their goals, timeline, and strengths and weaknesses. Over the years, I’ve also developed an extensive library of carefully organized official GMAT problems that allows me to target practice by topic and difficulty rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all curriculum. Most importantly, I want my students to understand why an approach works. My goal is not simply to help you answer the problem in front of you, but to teach you how to recognize the underlying structure of a problem so that you can apply the same reasoning when you encounter something new on test day.
Why do I coach?
I coach because I genuinely enjoy teaching and helping students experience the moment when something that once seemed difficult suddenly makes sense. After more than 20 years of tutoring, I’ve learned that students rarely struggle because they lack ability. More often, they need someone to identify exactly where their reasoning is breaking down, explain the concept in a way that clicks for them, and give them a clear plan for improving. That individualized problem-solving is what I enjoy most about coaching. I also know how consequential the GMAT can feel. A stronger score can expand a student’s options for business school and potentially change the trajectory of a career. Having attended Kellogg myself, I understand what can be on the other side of the application process. Ultimately, the most rewarding part of coaching is seeing a student become more confident and independent. My goal is not just to help someone earn a higher score, but to help them develop the skills and confidence to walk into the exam knowing they are prepared.
