About Marissa (Missy)
I never wanted to be a founder. I thought I was going to be a bioengineer and move back home to San Diego. When I realized the lab life was not for me, I joined McKinsey and focused on healthcare work I loved (ex: social determinants of health, behavioral health). I loved it so much I thought I was 100% returning when I left for business school at Stanford (famous last words). When I was there I realized the things I loved about consulting were also true of founding - great people, no day is the same, lots of creative problem solving, etc. I ended up working on multiple companies during school and made the jump to start Beaming. I’ve never learned so much so fast and am so thankful I made the jump when I did. Ask me anything!
Why do I coach?
My answer to Stanford's "What Matters Most to You and Why?" Essay... Empowerment! There is nothing I love more than empowering people with the tools they need to build the life they want. These has been a central theme to everything I've ever done through my personal and professional life, as a founder, yoga instructor, non-profit boards, and more. I can't wait to continue doing it through Leland. Excited to meet you soon!
