Maya Niksic is a Belgrade-born, Harvard-educated Serbian-American visionary reshaping the contours of women’s leadership. As the Founder and CEO of Adaptive Leadership Atelier, Maya has created a sanctuary where leadership meets artistry and style. Her journey from navigating the chaotic world of Wall Street during the global financial crisis to launching her Atelier highlights her commitment to being at the forefront of women’s leadership coaching. Since 2019, Maya has taught and supported senior military leaders, public officials, and students at Harvard Kennedy School in transforming complex challenges into opportunities for extraordinary growth. As a Leadership Coach and Trainer, she blends her expertise in adult development psychology, adaptive leadership, and vertical development, challenging clients to embrace contradictions and rewrite their narratives. She invites them to confront their loyalties, embrace vulnerabilities, and emerge not just as leaders but as artisans of their destinies. Maya’s clients learn to truly understand the landscapes of their organizations and the people who inhabit them. Her methodical yet daring approach, rooted in a deep understanding of the human condition, reflects her philosophy: the smallest shift in perspective can ignite profound transformations. Maya’s global perspective, honed through experiences in New York, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East, enables her to connect with leaders across diverse cultures and professions. In Maya’s world, leadership becomes an art form—each decision a brushstroke, each challenge a canvas. Her Atelier is where leaders come to construct something entirely new that reflects the complexity, paradoxes, and beauty of the world they wish to lead. A passionate stylist since her days at Ann Taylor, Maya views fashion as a powerful medium for self-expression. Beyond her work at the Atelier, she is an executive contributor and columnist for international magazines, sharing insights on life, leadership, and legacy—with style.

About Maya

I have built my career at the intersection of high-stakes leadership, technology, and human growth, beginning at Goldman Sachs and continuing through my work at Harvard Kennedy School. At Goldman, I learned how leaders thrive in fast-moving, high-pressure environments shaped by technology and constant change. At Harvard, I have spent the past six years designing and directing programs that combine adaptive leadership, adult development, and civic impact, guiding graduate students, executives, and policymakers through moments of uncertainty and transformation. My story is about bridging worlds: the rigor of finance with the humanity of coaching, the theory of leadership with the lived complexity of practice, and the perspective of global experience with the intimacy of personal growth. As a certified PCC coach, I support leaders to move beyond solving immediate challenges toward reimagining themselves for the future. Clients often describe me as bringing both intellectual sharpness and soulful presence. I coach not just for performance but for transformation, so that you can thrive in complexity and lead with clarity, courage, and style.

Why do I coach?

I coach because I know what it means to stand at the edge of uncertainty and wonder if you will find your way through. I have lived through demanding environments on Wall Street, deep academic immersion at Harvard, and life transitions across continents. At each stage, the presence of wise mentors and the practice of self-reflection helped me move from merely surviving toward creating meaning and impact. Coaching matters to me because it is a space where people can pause, be seen fully, and discover strengths they did not know they had. I have witnessed leaders transform when they realize that the very challenges they fear can become the catalysts for their greatest growth. My work is about holding that space and guiding clients to step into their clarity and courage. Coaching is not just my profession; it is the way I honor the transformative power that shaped my own life.
