Package Description:

Investor relations is one of the most underrated careers in finance. Strong pay, better hours than banking, direct access to C-suite, and you sit at the intersection of strategy, communications and capital markets. But most people in finance have no idea how to actually break in. I have worked in IR from two sides. I started my career at one of the most active boutique IR firms in the country during the record 2020 IPO boom, advising companies across the full lifecycle — IPOs, follow-on offerings, SPACs, de-SPACs, crisis communications, and ongoing investor relations strategy for small cap to large cap public companies. Then I moved to Goldman Sachs investment banking where I worked directly with IR teams on the other side during M&A transactions and capital markets processes. That dual perspective — inside IR and alongside IR from a bulge bracket bank — is rare and I have not met many people who have both. This package is for equity research analysts, bankers, corporate finance professionals, and anyone in adjacent finance roles who wants to transition into investor relations. We will cover how IR actually works day to day, how to position your current experience to break in, which companies hire from your background, how to network into IR roles, and what the job looks like across different company sizes and sectors.

What you'll get from this package

A clear IR transition strategy tailored to your current finance background and target company types

A targeted networking plan and outreach approach for landing IR roles from your current position

Interview prep and positioning for IR roles across public company sizes, from small cap to large cap

Goldman TMT Analyst Who Broke In Without a Finance Degree

I broke into Goldman Sachs investment banking without a finance degree. Here's how I did it. I started in biotech investor relations at one of the most active boutique IR firms in the country, advising on some of the busiest biotech IPOs during the record breaking 2020 boom year. From there I moved to Wells Fargo Securities investment banking in the REGAL group covering Real Estate, Gaming and Lodging. I worked on landmark deals including Aristocrat's $3.7B acquisition of Playtech and MGM's $3.9B sale of CityCenter, advising institutional clients like Blackstone, VICI Properties, Red Rock Resorts and Bally's. Then I lateraled to Goldman Sachs TMT and Consumer where I was exclusive buy-side advisor on Amazon's $3.9B acquisition of One Medical and Amazon's $1.7B acquisition of iRobot. I also worked on transactions for Nike, Starbucks and Nordstrom. I help two types of people. First, non-traditional candidates including non-finance majors, non-target school students and career switchers who feel like the door is closed. I got in without a finance degree and I know exactly how to position your story to get past the gatekeepers. Second, analysts at regional or middle market banks who want to lateral up to Goldman, Morgan Stanley or top boutiques. I made that exact move and I know what it takes on both sides of the table. If you think your background disqualifies you, it probably does not. Mine almost did and I found a way through anyway.
