About Jordan

After graduating from Texas Law, I started my career doing mergers & acquisitions and oil & gas transactions in the Houston office of Baker Hostetler LLP. Just over one year into my career there, Baker's corporate practice group imploded when a number of partners were poached away to two separate firms. I was given two options: (1) leave with one set of those partners to join a new firm, or (2) stay at Baker and likely have very little work on my plate for a significant period of time. I chose a third option - a close friend from law school was an associate at Gibson Dunn, and she reached out to let me know that GDC was opening a new Houston office. She put me in touch with the managing partner, who at the time was arguably the best oil & gas transactional lawyer in the world. After a quick interview process, I decided that GDC was the right path for me. I spent 3 great years at GDC and was about as well-positioned as one can be (which isn't saying all that much) to be able to eventually make a run at partner, but I was just coming to realize that that's not what I wanted long-term. About that same time, I got a call one night from the hiring partner in Kirkland's Houston office, with whom I was very familiar after having been across from him and his team on several transactions over the years. He told me that Kirkland would be opening an Austin office, and he thought I'd be perfect for it as he knew that my wife and I grew up in Austin and were looking to eventually go back. I ultimately accepted an offer from him to join as Kirkland's first attorney in the new Austin office, which I helped grow to over 70 attorneys by the time I left one year later. About 9 months into my tenure at Kirkland, I was headhunted by a recruiter for my current investment firm. After a lengthy round of interviews, I accepted an offer to go in-house as Associate General Counsel, and was promoted to General Counsel two years into my career here.
