I'm an experienced software engineer who has built and shipped production systems at scale at Square, Uber, and Chime, and I now help people build and work with AI. At Square I productionized LLM workflows, built internal AI tooling, and co-hosted company-wide AI office hours. I teach from first principles: how tokens, context, and agents actually work, independent of specific tools, models, or providers. I've taken designers and operations professionals from their first line of code to shipping software in production, helped CTOs and technical leaders adopt coding agents in their daily work, and paired with doctors, financial traders, and PhD researchers to turn their expertise into working software. About Dan
I'm a software engineer who has spent my career building at Uber, Chime, and Square. I've been writing software with coding agents since mid-2023, before most people had heard the term, and for the past two years I've built software exclusively using them. The work that changed my trajectory happened at Square, where I started teaching non-technical contributors to build software with AI tools. I watched people who had never written a line of code, and never expected to, take an idea from their own work and turn it into something real that solved their problem. That experience convinced me the barrier between understanding a problem and building it could be bridged, and that most people just haven't been shown the way through. Today I run wvlen, where I coach professionals and teams learning to build with AI. I help you figure out where these tools fit in your work, then build with you until you're confident to do it independently.
Why do I coach?
The most rewarding thing I did at Square was the first time I helped a non-technical colleague, someone who had spent years describing what they needed and waiting for an engineer to build it, realize they could build what they needed themselves. Once I saw that shift happen, it became hard for me to go back to building just by myself. For my entire career there has been a wall between the people who understood a problem and the people who could build the solution. Most of the work I did as a software engineer was in service of bridging that gap. With coding agents, there's been a reshuffling of roles when it comes to building software. There are now many cases where you can go from idea to solution without any help from a traditional software engineer. I measure success by how quickly you stop needing me. You bring deep knowledge of your own work that I could never match. My job is to hand you a capability that lasts, then see where you take it.

Disputes & Risk Infrastructure • Worked one-on-one for an hour+ with more than 10 technical and non-technical peers to teach effective use of coding agent tools across domains including frontend and backend software engineering, personal tool development, production design, brand design, and animation. • Productionized inference pipeline to evaluate if additional information was needed from a seller according to policy to win a dispute, achieving 90% precision on evals, improving upon an ops-driven review process by reducing cost and increasing throughput. • Hosted 50 weekly, hour+ hack sessions pushing the limits of agent coding tools, building software live using spec-driven development and long-running agent loops that ran autonomously until validation criteria passed. • Co-hosted weekly company-wide AI working group, socializing best practices and giving engineers a platform to present their work with AI and language model tools to a broader audience, regularly attended by 50+ engineers • Established first-in-kind cross-business-unit Kafka integration in Ruby, enabling more than 1,000 microservices to consume previously inaccessible streamed data. • Built and deployed internal router and dashboard enabling low-friction prompting, experimentation, and prototyping across different LLMs and providers, lowering the barrier to learning and empowering the experimentation that led to the disputes document intelligence work. • Built and delivered menu text extraction tool for Spanish-language menus, creating a first-pass automation for a previously manual process. • Piloted structured data extraction from dispute evidence documents submitted by sellers, achieving 90% accuracy across 11 fields with LLMs, used to aid in constructing processor responses for challenged transactions.
