About Carla

Hi, I'm Carla — a JD candidate and Knight-Hennessy Scholar at Stanford. I was raised in Reno, Nevada (very, very close to Lake Tahoe) and consider myself a mountain girl at heart. I graduated from UT Dallas in 2021, with no Ivy League name to lean on, and I know exactly how intimidating scholarship and law school applications looked from where I was standing. I remember the daunting blank-page-syndrome of staring down an essay prompt and not writing a single word for three days. When applying to law school, I received acceptances to Stanford, Harvard, Columbia, Georgetown, NYU, UMichigan, and UC Berkeley (the last three of which were all full-ride offers). Beyond applying for law school, I have ample experience with tough scholarship applications, having interviewed for the Rhodes, Marshall, Soros, Knight-Hennessy, Schwarzman, and Truman scholarships (the last three of which I won). • Established first and only abortion fund in the state of Nevada, recruited a board of directors and over 50 permanent volunteers • Raised over $1M for fund operations • Assisted over 2,000 people in accessing abortion care
