I am an MBA student at Harvard Business School and a former consultant at McKinsey & Company, with an academic background in engineering and professional experience in product and strategy consulting. Even with a less-than-competitive GMAT score, I was fortunate to be accepted to every top MBA program I applied to in the US and Europe, and I want to help you find that same success, and some joy, in your own application journey. I have successfully coached five clients, helping them craft compelling applications that highlight their unique strengths and experiences. Getting into a top MBA program is about much more than having great grades or test scores—it's about telling a compelling story that clearly demonstrates your leadership, impact, and potential. I know that firsthand. I was admitted to Harvard Business School (full-tuition scholarship), Berkeley Haas (full-tuition scholarship), Yale School of Management (scholarship), and Chicago Booth ($100,000 scholarship). Before my MBA, I built my career at Cummins, where I was promoted early and led high-impact engineering initiatives. Since business school, I've worked across private equity, M&A, corporate strategy, and business development, giving me a deep understanding of the experiences that resonate with admissions committees. I got into Columbia Business School off the waitlist with a $100K scholarship. I'm Josh, and as a re-applicant and "non-traditional" candidate who comes from an over-represented demographic background, I understand how confusing and challenging the MBA application process can be. Currently, I'm a rising 2Y at Columbia Business School who is passionate about entrepreneurship and early-stage investing. I work part-time as an early-stage VC investor and hold several leadership positions in both school clubs and non-profit organizations. In my free time, I'm working towards scratch golf and my first Ironman triathlon. As a JD/MBA student at Michigan Ross, I bring experience across law, finance, entrepreneurship, and international business, including working with private equity firms in New York and projects across Botswana, Colombia, China, and India. At Ross, I’m involved in the community through student admissions, including interviewing prospective students, as well as the Entrepreneurship & Venture Capital Club and International Investment Fund. My journey began at the University of Southern California, where I majored in neuroscience and minored in cinematic arts and actively participated in the student admissions committee, providing recommendations to the admissions team. I graduated from Columbia Business School in 2020 as a Meyer Feldberg Distinguished Fellow, which covered my full tuition. My path there was unusual. I spent two years at Accenture, then eight months as a TechnoServe volunteer consultant in Eswatini, then two years running new country expansion for One Acre Fund in Zambia. I scored 770 on the GMAT, and the scholarship came from the story I told about why a consultant moved to rural Africa and what I wanted to do next. I know how that story was built because I built it. Since then I've coached applicants through Wall Street Tequila and other admissions firms, most of them international students and young professionals from China and Asia applying to M7 and top-15 US programs. I work on the whole application, but the essays are where I spend most of my time, because that's where a strong candidate usually loses the scholarship. My approach is to find the one thing in your background that an admissions reader will remember a week later, then build every essay and the interview around it. I speak Mandarin and English natively, so if you're a Chinese speaker I can work with you in either language and help you turn an accomplishment that impresses people at home into one that impresses a reader in New York. I'll also tell you plainly which schools are a reach and which are a fit, because applying to the wrong list costs more than any coaching fee.
