About Baris
I grew up in Istanbul, Turkiye. Saw a computer that changed my life. Wrote my first computer game, a simple space invaders, when I was 10 or 11, and have been dreaming of Silicon Valley since. Came to the US to study Electrical Engineering when I was 18. I've been in the US for a little over 30 years. In my first 10 years, I was an engineer, a software developer, focusing on building the Internet. My work on cable modems and implementing IETF protocols granted me a number of patents. In my second 10 years in the US, I was a venture capitalist. Invested in communication systems, chip companies, and Internet and mobile app companies. Saw exits, and IPOs. Been an angel investor since. Having the urge to lead a company, in my last 10 years in the US, I've been a CEO to three companies, one exited, the other two still going on. I've had a vast variety of experiences and want to focus on those who want to make a change, from engineering to management, from management to board member, from board member to venture capitalist. I've seen it all and want to help.
Why do I coach?
I coach because I could not have accomplished anything in my career if it wasn't for good mentors on whose shoulders I've ridden. It is paramount and makes the difference between a mediocre and extraordinary career. I've also lived through career changes, the hardest part in any one's career. I want to help coders become leaders, leaders become investors, and investors become entrepreneurs. I've seen and lived all of these changes.
