I spent this summer as a Summer Analyst in Houlihan Lokey's Capital Solutions Secondaries group in New York, and I'm returning there full-time as an analyst in July 2027. Secondaries is one of the fastest-growing corners of private equity, and it's also one of the least understood by candidates. On the desk, I worked on GP-led transactions, including continuation vehicles, from the advisory side. I sat in on calls with GPs, LPs, and buyers, and saw firsthand how a deal gets priced against NAV, how the lead investor and syndicate come together, and how alignment terms like carry and GP commitment get negotiated. That gives me a practical view of how the industry actually works, not just the textbook version. I also just went through PE and secondaries recruiting myself, so I know what the process looks like right now: which technicals come up, how interviewers test whether you actually understand a CV versus a traditional buyout, and how to talk about the market credibly with limited experience. My sessions focus on what I know best: breaking down GP-led and LP-led secondaries in plain language, preparing you for secondaries-specific technicals and deal discussions, and helping you position yourself for both advisory and buy-side roles.

I have worked in both private equity and investment banking, I have spent over 2 years in the PE industry. In those 2 years, I have been a part of 2 closings and looked at over 500 companies. My responsibilities range from new deal sourcing, diligence, managing investor relationships, and supporting portfolio companies. I know what it takes to get into the industry and perform while present.

Roles in Investment Banking, Private Equity, Hedge Fund / Crossover, and as a General Partner / Independent Sponsor all have provided different but relevant skills / lessons for usage in professional investing. Private investing experience spanning traditional private equity, growth investing, and late-stage growth / pre-IPO rounds. I now manage a small investment firm in a founder capacity, having launched a private equity style independent sponsor focused on majority acquisitions in the lower middle market. We have executed investments and are in the process of executing on additional platforms, while constantly looking for add-ons to our existing businesses. My founder / independent sponsor angle enables me to provide some unique insight that extends beyond the typical 'breaking in' and 'due diligence' type topics and into things like capital raising, interfacing with our LPs / investors, assessment of categories, different strategies of deployment (e.g. roll-up, value vs. growth, organic vs. inorganic growth strategy), etc. This role also results in oversight of the operating companies and extends my involvement into operations and marrying the function of the sponsor with the operating company.

Currently, I am pursuing my MBA at Columbia Business School as a Robert F. Smith Scholar, further deepening my expertise in alternative investments and entrepreneurship. My private equity experience is hands-on, not adjacent: I worked at a distressed PE firm during my MBA and spent seven years at Citi in EMEA, reaching AVP, building the financial and analytical foundation PE recruiters test for. I've also sat through a real M&A transaction from the integration side at Accenture, so I understand deals as they actually play out, not just as case studies. I coach the full breaking-in process — story, technicals, and the modelling-and-judgment combination PE interviews demand — with direct, no-fluff feedback from someone who's lived the work.
