Hello! My name is Marcella, and I am thrilled to be your coach. Currently, I am a Master of Public Policy student at Duke University. I am an experienced tutor, having developed and delivered 900+ tutoring lessons over the last five years. My writing coaching has helped students get into medical schools and highly selective schools such as Dartmouth, MIT, and Yale. As a journalist, my writing was selected as part of The Atlantic's "100 Exceptional Works of Journalism" and won Story of the Year at the Hearst Journalism Awards. I have also served as an English language teacher in Malaysia through the Fulbright Program, which sparked my passion for teaching. I earned scores of 36 on ACT English and 36 on ACT Reading. Over the last nine admission cycles, I have supported more than 170 students globally, helping them earn 60+ Ivy League offers and acceptances to other top-tier U.S. and international institutions. My students have collectively secured upwards of 6 million USD in need-based and merit-based scholarships, significantly reducing the cost of their education. In addition to college admissions, I have guided multiple students to admission into hyper-selective summer programs such as MIT’s Research Science Institute (RSI) and multiple cohorts of the University of Pennsylvania’s Management & Technology Summer Institute (M&TSI).​ My counseling style is structured, data-informed, and high-touch: I set clear expectations, break complex processes into manageable steps, and hold students accountable while championing their growth. I graduated cum laude from Harvard and went on to earn graduate degrees from MIT, Wharton, and Stanford — giving me firsthand experience navigating admissions at four of the most selective universities in the world. I understand what these institutions look for because I've been through their processes as both an applicant and, later, as a Guest Lecturer at Stanford School of Medicine and MIT. Today I'm an active entrepreneur, investor, and board member with experience spanning six countries and four continents. I've advised students and families across the U.S. and Latin America (I'm fluent in Spanish and Portuguese) on every aspect of the college admissions journey — from building a compelling profile and discovering the right schools, to crafting standout essays and making the final enrollment decision. When I applied to college, I got into Harvard early, then Stanford, where I ultimately went to study Computer Science and Psychology. Along the way I wrote essays for more than fifteen schools. At the time, the process felt confusing and high-stakes. Looking back, I see what nobody told me then: those essays weren't just applications. They were the first real invitation to decide who I wanted to become. That belief is the core of how I coach. A college essay isn't just a performance for an admissions officer. My goal for every student is twofold: submit the strongest possible essay, and walk away with a stronger sense of who they are and where they're headed.
