I grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, and earned my degrees in French and Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I went on to pursue my Juris Doctor (JD) at Duke University School of Law — an experience that deepened my love for the study of law. While I briefly worked in the legal field, I quickly realized that what truly inspired me wasn’t practicing law — it was helping others find their path through education. That realization led me to pivot into the field of international higher education, where I discovered my passion for mentoring students through the admissions process. For over 15 years, I’ve worked in university admissions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. As a former admissions officer, I’ve reviewed hundreds of applications from students around the world. My experience includes serving as the Assistant Director of Recruitment and Admissions at the University of Chicago Booth Executive MBA program, where I gained firsthand insight into what top-tier programs look for in standout candidates. I spent over a decade living in Hong Kong, where I worked with both local and international students on applications to law school, MBA, Master’s, and undergraduate programs. Now based back in Raleigh, I continue to support students worldwide as they pursue their academic and professional goals. Prior to law school, I worked as a legal assistant at a civil rights firm in Austin, Texas. I also have a background in education as a high school math teacher through Teach For America, which has honed my ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively. 🎓 I get it: I recently underwent both the US and UK law school admissions process (spring 2023), with successful results in both. I was admitted to NYU (matriculated), Columbia, Georgetown, and GW, and was waitlisted at Yale. I was also accepted to the University of Law in London and BPP (and can share why I opted for the US over UK system). I can help clients craft their law school narrative in the context of a rapidly evolving admissions system. I am available to review applicants' essays, provide interview strategy tips, and share guidance on the financial aid process. 👨🏾‍💼 I've succeeded in the job market: I'm familiar with the BigLaw recruiting process for 1Ls, which I successfully underwent in summer 2024, with early offers from 6 of the 8 BigLaw firms to which I applied. This summer I will be interning at two US law firms (AmLaw 100) with strong international litigation and arbitration practices. I can also provide interview tips and strategies on how to leverage your law school's OCS.

I have advised hundreds and hundreds of law school applicants over an almost twenty year period. I am an expert in law school admissions and have also published a book and a nationwide column about it. Many applicants that I have advised have been admitted to their top choice of law schools. Some of my former students have also received up to full scholarships to law school. I am also an expert on the subject of legal careers, as well as alternative legal careers. In addition I have taught several courses for students planning to apply to law school. I am a graduate of Brown University and Boston College Law School.

Brian was personally admitted to multiple Ivy League law schools before choosing to pursue a JD at UC Berkeley. He also holds a master of social science from UCLA. His research interests include Bitcoin, green finance, and civil liberties.
