I’m Brian Anderson, a former Group Marketing Manager at Abbott and owner of Brian Anderson Strategy LLC! My passion is helping people grow and succeed through personalized career coaching. I have deep industry expertise in medical devices and digital health technology and I specialize in helping clients in product management to advance in their professional development as well as mentoring those desiring to move into product management from other fields. With 25+ years in product management and marketing leadership roles in world class companies including Abbott, 3M, and Align Technology, I have a successful track record of managing teams and coaching and developing talent. I've spent my career in product management, most recently at Hinge, where I was a Chief of Staff and now lead our growth products team. Along the way I've worked across some unconventional corners of PM: building new products at startups in the edtech and health tech spaces, leading large-scale consumer-facing products at bigger companies, and working on both internal digital transformation and external, customer-facing products. I built and launched Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs, where I stayed on afterward as an advisor on product strategy, and most recently partnered with MBA students on an experiential learning program, coaching them on product management best practices. I came into product management from a non-technical background, which means I've had to build my technical fluency the hard way -- and I think that makes me a better coach for anyone worried they're "not technical enough" to break into PM. Most of my experience is in 0-to-1 work: taking a rough idea through product discovery and turning it into something real, often with more ambiguity than resources. I've also spent a lot of time on the people side of the job -- managing and mentoring teams of PMs day-to-day, and coaching several colleagues (both inside and outside my company) into their first PM roles. I started my career as a pre-med student working for a Major League baseball team and have been fortunate to have worked at companies like Instagram, Google and Opendoor. Through this journey I've made the difficult transitions not only between wildly different industries but also between business, operational and now product roles. Through my own experiences and helping others with theirs, I've learned tactics on how to navigate these transitions and big career decisions.
