I tend to take the long way around, learning lessons the hard way and trying to fail forward. I’m energized by sharing those lessons and helping people with similar tendencies, backgrounds, and ambitions be a step ahead of where I was when I was in their shoes. At one point in my life, I started doing things for the plot. At a certain point, the plot started happening to me. If you’re someone who focuses less on test scores, though they do matter, and more on the story, the journey, and how all the pieces fit together, we’d probably be a great fit. Now for the baseball card stats: - I’m a 2025 Stanford GSB grad. - I went to Florida State and cold emailed 1,000 people to get a job in banking. I got fired after a year. - I failed forward and cold emailed my way into BCG. Didn’t get fired this time. I actually liked it, but eventually got bored and wanted to get closer to my dream of becoming a CEO. - So I moved to Kenya and joined Jumia, Africa’s first unicorn, where I launched and scaled a 20-minute grocery delivery business across 10 African countries to $10M+ in GMV in 18 months. - I applied to business school twice. - The first time, I applied to six schools and got zero interviews. I wasn’t ready. - The second time, I hired a consultant, applied to HBS and GSB, and got into both. That last part is a big reason I coach. I’ve been incredibly blessed with mentorship and guidance in my life, and I know firsthand how much the right person can change your trajectory. I want to provide some of that for other people. I’m not going to tell you there’s one perfect path or some secret formula to getting into business school. There isn’t. But I can help you understand your story, figure out what actually matters, sharpen your strategy, avoid some of the mistakes I made, and put together an application that sounds like you. I graduated from Columbia Business School in 2020 as a Meyer Feldberg Distinguished Fellow, which covered my full tuition. My path there was unusual. I spent two years at Accenture, then eight months as a TechnoServe volunteer consultant in Eswatini, then two years running new country expansion for One Acre Fund in Zambia. I scored 770 on the GMAT, and the scholarship came from the story I told about why a consultant moved to rural Africa and what I wanted to do next. I know how that story was built because I built it. Since then I've coached applicants through Wall Street Tequila and other admissions firms, most of them international students and young professionals from China and Asia applying to M7 and top-15 US programs. I work on the whole application, but the essays are where I spend most of my time, because that's where a strong candidate usually loses the scholarship. My approach is to find the one thing in your background that an admissions reader will remember a week later, then build every essay and the interview around it. I speak Mandarin and English natively, so if you're a Chinese speaker I can work with you in either language and help you turn an accomplishment that impresses people at home into one that impresses a reader in New York. I'll also tell you plainly which schools are a reach and which are a fit, because applying to the wrong list costs more than any coaching fee.
