I have tutored the GMAT and GRE for 10 years. I worked for Kaplan and a couple of other tutoring firms before striking out on my own 8 years ago. I developed a unique approach to mastering the content presented on the GMAT and GRE, and I also help students structure the entirety of their studying process and provide a comprehensive approach including homework and practice tests. I've tutored over 900 students, most of whom have gone on to attend all of the Top 7 MBA programs, as well as top schools in Europe. I love helping people who are struggling with their progress, giving them a fresh approach, and seeing them finally get the score they are capable of. I have personally taken the GMAT and GRE more times than any person I'm earth, that I'm aware of. I have score 790 multiple times, in addition to many 780s and 770s. The GMAT is a fascinating test compared to others I have coached for (SAT, MCAT, USMLE, etc) if for no other reason than because of its unique scoring and administration system. The GMAT is also differentiate from other professional school exams in that test takers are working professionals applying to business school in parallel with full-time work (as opposed to students with more flexible schedules) and the exam tests topics that most examinees have not directly used in years (think: geometry, multivariable algebra, etc). Each of these features add a dimension to the learning curve which can either make the exam especially challenging OR can be leveraged to accelerate score improvement relative to other examinees. When I coach GMAT clients, we focus on the HOW more than the what. Specifically: how to prepare for the test (what to do each day of prep) and how to take the test (what to do when at the computer on exam day). Focused review of specific content can also be useful on a case by case basis for topics that are particularly problematic for the client and also highly represented on the exam.

I’ve been teaching the GMAT since 2006 and the GRE since 2009. Over the years I’ve created a vast collection of slides, notes, and handouts for you. But I don’t believe in being complacent – in fact I’m constantly trying to improve through further study, research, and innovation. When I worked for a test-prep company I wrote a 270-page manual on Verbal problems, to help train the company’s teachers and textbook writers. To keep my math skills sharp, I regularly take college-level math courses. Right now I’m also redesigning my whole Critical Reasoning curriculum. For me the most exciting thing about teaching is that moment when a student suddenly understands a concept. To make those “aha!” moments happen, I carefully tailor my lessons to each student’s knowledge level and learning style. My intuitive, common-sense approach to the GMAT has helped numerous students get top scores since 2011. I emphasize comprehension rather than memorization: Instead of just giving you rules to remember, I help you figure out why they work. There's no magic formula that makes the GMAT easy, but with my techniques, it won't feel too hard. A good GMAT tutor should meet students where they are, and I always strive to do this. If you know a concept but struggle to apply it to certain tricky problems, I can help you with that. Alternatively, if you need something explained from the ground up, I can help with that too. I am flexible enough to work within your mental framework, rather than imposing something completely unfamiliar. My goal is to find explanations and methods that work for you, even if they aren’t entirely standard. I'll make sure to warn you if you're heading in a wrong direction, but for the most part I view GMAT tutoring as an opportunity to help you leverage skills that you already have. I've found this to be a very rewarding process, and I think you will too!
